2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

Not saying your analysis is wrong, but if
he doesn't fit our philosophy, I think its fair to wonder why we recruited him to begin with. Or even more fair to wonder why we offered him $2-2.5 mil to stay.
I think a part of this that's been changing the last couple years are Big Ten schools have now passed SEC schools in terms of money. They have larger booster base and better media deals.

Big ten just won men's/women's bball, and back to back football championships. This is more of a conference financial problem with SEC no longer being top dog.

I could probably have gone into better detail but figured I was already losing many lol…

He’s still a near 7 footer that can score in the post and block a few shots and grab boards…he would have his limitations defensively for what we want out of our 5, but we could probably mask some things. I would say it’s probably more another system showcases his full abilities moreso than our system does, maybe that’s a better way to put it, and thus a program like that sees more value in him than we do when we are trying to make him more of something that’s probably not his greatest strengths.

Jonas Aidoo got a big payday too when he bailed…

What did he do?

Best of luck to JP, time will tell if he made the best decision or not.

Not a knock on cncchris. He’s just having a good discussion. But why can do many “fans” not understand this concept. Every coach of every sport has nuisances to the things they want in a game plan requiring slightly different talents in players. It’s the whole joy of sports. How can I outdo the other coach with this or that concept/talent. I guess so many people only watch a game but don’t really understand the game. Not trying to be arrogant like I know it all. But this is the whole basis of sports but so many people seem to miss this. They think you should be able to throw 10’s of millions of dollars around and grab anyone you want and go win instant championships. It just don’t work that way.

Yeah, that makes more sense. And I agree.

I 100% get where you’re coming from and agree from the “instant gratification” perspective. There’s no magic number that guarantees a Final Four, let alone a national title; if there were, it would have A) been spent and assembled while B) upended by a new scion of industry the next season.

The inarguable fact remains that you do need to spend tens of millions of dollars to have a legitimate chance of competing in basketball (let alone football), however. Upsets happen, we’ve seen Cinderella stories (albeit less frequently after the bonkers 2023 Final Four when NIL really elevated), but you’re not going to have a team outside of the top twelve schools in terms of payroll be a title contender (let alone favorite) during the regular season ever again.

Perfect fit. Michigan is 100th percentile in high low usage and Estrella can take over that 4 role that can do it all. He can do that while competing for a championship as Michigan puts the money where their mouth is

What a bargain for Michigan as he can be both the high and low man with his standing high post spike air dunks
