2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

Do you feel $4million was a good value on Nate’s production as I don’t? Obviously, when we agreed to whatever the price was, we were buying potential which didn’t fully develop. JMO

I think anytime a top 5-10 recruit in the country wants to come to your program, you do whatever to land them.

We were a shooter short on this team and we struck out on a few. And most of those guys would have had to cover Ament's scoring average and then some to actually make it worth it.

But the last thing I'm ever going to advocate for is us telling top 5-10 national recruits we aren't interested regardless if you want come here at a certain price point.

Would be a “dream” to pull off Foxwell, Lundblade, and Rice but I can’t see how we’d have the funds for that or the interest from some of the current players in that many projected minutes coming in and not losing guys.

I think if Boswell is relegated to the bench, he’ll transfer. I will be interested in how Barnes handles the Boswell situation. Not many guys will be okay with taking a reduced role or losing their starting spot in between seasons.
I’m under the impression that CRB doesn’t guarantee anyone a certain amount of PT, only the chance to have a fair competition for PT? And I don’t see Boswell hitting the portal because he has to compete next season either. If Boswell continues to improve, he will absolutely get plenty of PT as either a starter or the first guard off the bench. Boswell seems to be totally bought into the Barnes / Tennessee culture. JMO

JP was the most efficient 4/5 in the SEC per Evan Miya...we literally ignore him on offense and basically rely on him for tip-ins or scoring off O-rebs. He will start for someone next year and avg 14+ with 8+ reb per game is my prediction. His baby hook is money but we only let him shoot it 1-2 times per game for some odd reason. I also predict he will show he can stretch the floor with a top of the key 3.
I completely agree with this and how he is being used or not used. However, even though I have been one of his biggest supporters, I will say that JP has developed some really bad habits that were magnified in the last two games - things like jogging up the court instead of running or sprinting, ball watching instead of fighting for position, and rushing shots. Of course, it is all stuff that can be fixed and given his natural offensive gifts, I hope he does fix it.

In my honest opinion, I think we need a Okpara replacement. If you can land Wilkinson and Lundblade, then I personally think we’re set at the guard position. Landing those two is like having Gillespie and Chaz on the same team.

G: Wilkinson
G: Boswell for Defense
G: Lundblade
F: JP
C: Okpara replacement

I personally think this gives you a lot of fire power. I think Evans also takes the next step offensively and gives you something. You’ll hopefully still have Carey, Brown, etc to give you some offense off the bench.
G: Wilkinson
G: Lundblade
G: Vaaks or Doti
F: JP
C: Anton Bonke
Final Four level of talent. 😁

Tanner, Rice and Lundblade as upperclassmen absolute studs and improved Boswell, Evans, Henderson, Phillips willing to play depth roles... that's championship material. No way this happens, and we'll probably lose some guys to the portal along the way, but one can dream. I just want the team to be ambitious, even if that means making tough decisions on returning players.

See my other post I just made. Don’t think you can keep him unless he starts and don’t see us having the funds to land 3 elite transfers. We’ll get 2 at most. Have to have supporting pieces.
Yeah that's the tricky part of Evans and Boswell is probably neither is interested coming off the bench and there's 0% chance both can be starting next year together on a top 15 roster.

Exactly. I guess my “perfect” scenario is more of the “realistic perfect scenario” and I should have clarified.

Would I love to have Foxwell, Rice (if healthy), and Lundblade all starting for us? Obviously. We’re not Kentucky or Duke though so I just can’t see us landing more than 2 of the elite tier transfers. That’s why I see a role for Boswell still.

Gotta respect a guy publicly taking responsibility for his failure to be in proper shape. Most of his peers would tend to deflect blame elsewhere. After the tournament, I’m starting to rethink my position on him returning. Barnes will decide whether it’s all talk or if it’s serious.
I hope he stays. I’ve always cut against the general sentiment about Carey. Frustrating and flawed but he has upside in my opinion with willingness to be coached. He probably fought Barnes efforts all season.

Boswell is actually in a good spot as a player. He can be the glue guy with experience for Barnes next year or he can likely go with Gainey to NC State if that winds up being his job and help Gainey build the program.

You lost me at Brown and Estrella. I'm not sure Brown has the offensive skills. Kinda reminds me of Carey except he makes bunnies. Banking on Estrella staying healthy is fools gold. If you're going all in with the portal, you just can't take that chance. Plus, he's not a rim protector. We need a big, tough, physical post who can swat some balls and bang down low.

Agee and those all should be easy fixes

Edit: I'll also add that the staff plays a part in this to get him more engaged on the offense vs. just floating around looking for someone to set a screen for...run some actual offense through him.

I genuinely think Brown has really high potential as a playmaking big and Estrella, if properly featured, can be one of the best bigs/All-SEC. Hope I'm right but understand if it doesn't work out that way!

In fairness, Ament had an ankle issue and was not as effective as he had been. If we had gotten a 35 point game out of him yesterday, we might have seen a different outcome. Can't really blame him for an ankle sprain.

Having said that, I would prefer to pay someone with the same talent, but older/wiser and a few more pounds on his bones, given the choice.

There's some NBA draft/mock board site called Tankathon that lists potential NBA players and their ranking some are #NR, but I guess they are still good enough to be on their page. Not many of these players are in the portal but it's a good place to start if you want TALENT first. I think any of these guys should be considered. If you break it down by colleges it's easier .(2026 NBA Draft Big Board | Tankathon) They got Nate Ament at number 10. Cameron Carr at 24 for reference.

#70 - Miles Byrd - SG - Junior
#NR - KJ Lewis - SG - Junior
#NR - Neoklis Avdalas - SG/SF - Freshman ******. this is who we should go hard for ******

there's more players that are NR but I got lazy. haha

I believe Brown has high potential and surprised the coaching staff this year.

Assuming we're in the PG market, which I think we absolutely will be. There are already quite a few great options.

Jackson Shelstad, 6'1" Oregon - 1 year left, got hurt and only played in 12 games...but in his 79 game career there 44% FG, 35% 3PT 84% FT 13.6 ppg, 3.0 apg, 3.0 rpg, 1 spg

Dedan Thomas Jr, 6'1" LSU - 1 year left, for his career 43.7% FG, 34.6% 3PT, 75% FT 14.6 ppg, 5.3 apg, 2.5 rpg low turnover rate too at just 2.0 in 76 games

Isaiah Johnson, 6'1" Colorado - 3 years left, 48.6% FG, 37.8% 3PT, 82.1% FT 16.9 ppg, 3.0 apg, 2.9 rpg, 1.0 spg more offense minded PG but low turnovers as well at just 1.4 a game. Only started 15 games but played in 32 and saw 30+ mpg

Joel Foxwell, 6'1" Portland - 3 years left, 39.3% FG, 32% 3PT, 80.7% FT 15.6 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 6.5 apg a bit high on turnovers at 3.1 though...but with better folks around him lots of potential

Christian Hammond, 6'4" Santa Clara - 1 year left, coming off 48.4% FG, 39.3% 3PT, 78.7% FT 15.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.2 spg...more of a SG type that was playing PG but I like his size and deep ball capabilities

Leroy Blyden Jr, 6'1" Toledo - 3 years left, 46.1% FG, 40.7% 3PT, 84.6% FT 16.4 ppg, 4.5 apg, 4.0 rpg, 1.8 spg dude does it all...originally a Michigan kid I bet Wolverines work hard to bring him in
