2026 Vols Transfer Portal Thread

They are kind of the same guy and we don’t need two of them. Rumors that Evans already has a big offer somewhere. I would rather keep Evans, personally. I think he has a lot more potential as a scorer and is a better athlete.
I like having two. What if one gets hurt, one gets in foul trouble, needs a rest, etc. Also both are a year older and should be improved. The only question would be can you afford both.

Heart can want what it wants I guess... I will point this out though

We had 3 players averaging 10 PPG, 2 over 15. And we had 3 other players averaging 6 ppg

Duke has 3 players averaging 10 ppg, 2 over 15 ppg. And 3 other players averaging 6 ppg
UConn has 5 players averaging 10 ppg, 0 over 15 ppg. And 1 other player averaging 6 ppg
Michigan has 5 players averaging 10 ppg, 1 at 15 ppg. And 4 other players averaging 6 ppg
Illinois has 5 players averaging 10 ppg, 1 at 15 ppg. And 2 other players averaging 6 ppg
Arizona has 5 players averaging 10 ppg, 1 at 15 ppg. And 2 other players averaging 6 ppg

So we're not that much different...I'd like to see us have 4 guys at 10 or more a game, but I'd really like to see us have 8 or 9 all getting 6 or more. What's crazy is that under Barnes we've never had a season where at least 8 players played 20+ games and averaged 6 ppg or more. That to me highlights the biggest issue with getting over the hump.

As much as I love Cade, I think he needs to go elsewhere. At this point he’s probably behind JP, Brown and depending on what version of Carey you get, he’s probably better as well.

Then add in the fact we’re looking for post players this off season, I think the writing may be on the wall for him as far as playing time goes.
IMO, if CRB is going to continue to play with 2 post players on the floor at the same time, at least one of them needs to be able to stretch the defense. None of the 4 post players that were in the rotation could (or would) shoot beyond 10 feet. You combine that with the fact that the other 3 guys on the floor with them only Gillepsie was a deep threat, and you can see why at times this offense bogged down.

We need a 4 or a 5 that can shoot the 3. Or better yet, more than 1 player that can consistently shoot the 3.

Never going to get over the hump until we get some more firepower. Michigan and UConn for instance have 8 of their 9 rotation guys who are legitimately 3 point threats.

Boswell has a low ceiling for scoring, someone like Evan’s has the ability to easily be a better scorer than Boswell.
Boswell has played a lot of minutes. You don’t let a player like that go if you can help it. He should improve his scoring next year. He is already a decent spot up shooter. And he has shown glimpses of being able to get to the rim and score off the dribble. Both players are needed. Boswell is a good complimentary piece and could easily take the next step to being very good.

Efficiency was a big problem with Vols this past year given average 46% from field, 33% from 3 and 69% FT. Michigan on the season was 50% from field, 75% FT, and 36% from 3.

Nobody said all 9 players move on. Estrella and Boswell have not proven to be starting caliber players. Also, them being the best of the returnees isn’t saying a lot?? lol. We lose Gillespie, Okpara, and Ament. We can find their production easily in the portal but most likely even better production
JP was the most efficient 4/5 in the SEC per Evan Miya...we literally ignore him on offense and basically rely on him for tip-ins or scoring off O-rebs. He will start for someone next year and avg 14+ with 8+ reb per game is my prediction. His baby hook is money but we only let him shoot it 1-2 times per game for some odd reason. I also predict he will show he can stretch the floor with a top of the key 3.

He should be a backup guard, not a starter.

I feel like Phillips is sort of Okpara light. If he fully recovers and continues to develop his body and skills then he could be what we’re looking for.
I loved Felix, however, Cade showed he actually plays with a slightly stronger base and avoided getting buried under the basket in some games where Felix struggled with this (obviously this is very match-up dependent).

Gotta respect a guy publicly taking responsibility for his failure to be in proper shape. Most of his peers would tend to deflect blame elsewhere. After the tournament, I’m starting to rethink my position on him returning. Barnes will decide whether it’s all talk or if it’s serious.

I think Estrella is just starting to tap his potential. If he is willing to work at it, then I think he is a keeper for at least another year.
I think both can contribute quite a bit. If Boswell develops even more like he did this year, then he will be fine. I know he isn’t quite as good defensively as we hope, but his offense helped in the postseason. He was integral against UVA. Consistency and development.

With another dev leap in the offseason...I could see him being a Gainey-type player for us on offense (he showed some midrange and ability to finish at the rim at times) and be a 6th man we haven't seen frankly...really good defender who is willing score at multiple levels vs. just spot-up 3's.

I’m not saying you did, I was asking your thoughts…if you want those 2 to move on I would presume you’re probably good with most everyone else also moving on.

I want all the guys back with eligibility left, the question is how much they ask for. Boswell can start but we will need elite bucket getters at the 1 and 3 if he's a starter. We can't run out double posts that are unable to shoot from further than 8 feet again (JP can but we don't allow it for some reason).

I don't know. I have no idea what to expect I just want some continuity. And I was all out on Carey but the last 2 games, fire, and his statement kinda swayed me.

Yikes...and here I assumed it had to be the staff trying to bulk him up. This actually p*sses me off more that he was getting all those minutes if he just came in overweight which I think clearly hurt his explosiveness and quickness contributing to his bad games. Maybe 1 factor in his late season improvement is because he lowered his weight as the season progressed???

I've been open throughout to him coming back IF CRB wants him back...post-season play def helped improved the odds (+70% now?) but I seriously doubt he improves his FT %'age which is a huge detractor.

Man this would give me hope for 4 straight Elite 8's!

Do you feel $4million was a good value on Nate’s production as I don’t? Obviously, when we agreed to whatever the price was, we were buying potential which didn’t fully develop. JMO
I would rather get 3 drivers/shooters at that price. 10 ppg in ncaa tourney in 4 games with a player earning 130k per game and 13k for every point doesn’t need to happen again.
