Wouldn't have been cheaper to buy a new one?
Actually no. While this was definitely not cheap to buy a new boat with this equipment in it would be close to $100k bass boats are about as ridiculous as wake boats now on price. After I’ve added the power poles I will have around half of that in it. And this boat had been fully zero timed too. Additionally this is the engine I wanted. A 2 stroke Mercury Racing 250XS. They don’t make that motor anymore so I’d have to get a heavy ass 4 stroke which I don’t want. So I’ve got a custom boat rigged exactly how I wanted for half of a new boat. That money also includes a complete refurbishment and painting of the trailer also.

Sweet. Your Mercury auto-mixes or do you pre mix?

I know bass boats are expensive but so is gel coat and upholstery, ask me how I know…

It auto mixes. I’ve got separate tanks for oil and fuel. Also forgot to add this is a 50th anniversary hull number too. They haven’t done an anniversary edition since this one. So basically to get what I want I had to go used. And now I’ve got a used boat that’s virtually new

I know how you know. B O A T is actually an acronym. Bust out another thousand

What manufacture?

And yes I know. I'm about to have some more gel coat work done.

Never heard of them, still in business?
Kinda. They got hit hard in 2008 and never scaled back up. Privately held family business and only build a few boats a year now. Their current model is the same boat I own they haven’t changed the moulds since the 90’s. They basically build a boat custom to your order.

When I was a kid growing up on Norris Lake we ran around in Norris Crafts and Allison Crafts mostly. Both east TN boats. This is basically the dream boat I’ve always wanted. And when I was within sniffing range of retirement I went and found a nice project boat in great shape will all the major pieces on it I wanted but didn’t want to fool with updating. A buddy bird dogged me this 50th anniversary boat and I bought it after Norris Craft went thru it top to bottom.

We get news on Swaguilar's status today. For those of us who want to see the team do well, we are hoping he returns. For the morose among us, they hope he moves on.
Why do you guys keep making the assumption that a conference call or a hearing necessarily means that a ruling will be issued that day?

When a rocket or aircraft breaks the sound barrier there is a sonic boom from the pressure wave.
Does that happen at Mach 2 and each increase in mach thereafter? Or is it only at Mach 1?
Only Mach 1. However the pressure wave remains even after the boom. IE any time a supersonic aircraft passes overhead it will be followed by a sonic boom heard and felt by the observer.

The pressure in the pressure wave increases as speed continues to increase?
Not actually sure on the physics at this point. This was 2nd year physics in college for me. Just thinking anecdotally back to the Right Stuff days I want to say the controls mostly locked up right at the sound barrier but then smoothed out considerably once the aircraft “punched thru” the pressure wave. I believe after Mach 1 the pressure wave was behind the aircraft? As it was flying faster than the associated sound wave? One of the common design features we see today on supersonic aircraft that came out of this was the full flying tail surfaces to help balance the pressure generated torques on the control surfaces.

I cringed at googling this but the answer seems reasonable. The point I made is the last bullet.

Yes, a sonic boom generally becomes stronger and louder as an aircraft flies faster, as higher Mach numbers increase the pressure jump across the shock wave. While the shock cone angle narrows and energy spreads out, the intensified air compression and steeper pressure gradient result in a sharper, more intense boom.
Here are the key details regarding shock wave strength and speed:
  • Speed vs. Strength: At exactly Mach 1, the shock is at its weakest; as speed increases beyond that, the pressure jump across the shock increases.
  • Mechanism: The aircraft moves faster than the pressure waves it creates, causing them to pile up into a stronger, combined shockwave.
  • Altitude Impact: Lower altitudes produce more intense booms because the shockwaves have less distance to travel and lose less energy before hitting the ground.
  • Aircraft Factors: Larger or less aerodynamic aircraft create stronger shockwaves.
  • Not Just One Boom: The plane continuously generates a shockwave, meaning the boom is a persistent path, not a one-time event.
