Tennessee Lady Vol News

Nah. It’s just change. We still gonna hate Vandy.
Changing into something radically different.

I am in full support of NIL, revenue sharing for players but the current model is not sustainable in the long run.

And now players who have signed pro contracts may be able to return to the college ranks as per the test case of the Bama player.

What I mean that college is in the process of becoming something like a developmental pro league, where players are paid employees of a university AD and under contracts (which would create some stability in the transfer portal madness and the bidding wars).

The student-athlete concept is becoming a quaint anachronism.

And I don't think every University is going to be able compete at this level because they won't have the resources.

So "college sports" may take the form of D2 and D3 level competition with the current D1 being a more limited set of schools who can field teams of professional athletes.

I am not sure the NCAA will be able to run this brave new world. A break off organization may form with the NCAA being in charge of these lower, non-professionalized programs.

It just struck me that my Dad co-oped with the gub’ment back in the sixties while in engineering school. Academic opportunities were widespread and i would assume plentiful still. Why not extend that toward athletes. This was triggered in another forum. Apparently, there’s a full blown NBA player, Amari Bailey, who has filed to return… wild west fer sure.

I doubt this makes anybody happy hopefully it is for more NIL money so we can get some of the top players.

We renewed before the game yesterday. I joked I was glad I didn't see that display before doing so. I don't mind the student athletes getting paid, but I'd like more pretense that they are students.

Like they aren’t 6-1 in the SEC right now, having split a series with one SEC team, ranked in Top 25, and advance to the S16 in year 1.
It was an unnecessary loss and a game that both coaches and players need to take responsibility for, but that post you responded to I agree was plain ole silliness. 👆

This is the right decision. I mean HS athletic programs have increased ticket prices yearly in the area I’m involved in athletics and education.
I saw a comical comment in the thread referring to this increase in ticket price increases which I believe is strategically sound and will help in continuing to put Tennessee athletics in the top 1 - 5 of all the SEC schools as a sports program giant!
Now to the comment, there’s probably a select few and I’m not referring to the poster who occasionally provides inside info on some LV WBB content. This forum truly doesn’t understand the scope of Tennessee WBB NIL!
It is huge!
I keep telling everyone they can give any female athlete the NIL they want if it makes sense. And on top of that, you are sadly misinformed if you think the top 2025 recruiting class, and transfer portal classes currently featuring three WNBA projected draft picks in Talaysia Cooper, Lazaria Spearman, and Janiah Barker isn’t the “top” players lol.
Now NIL doesn’t guarantee team chemistry, coaches and players meshing, or instant success. Hard work does. If this team can avoid another setback they are poised to compete for a SEC and NCAA title with the top “players” talent on this roster.
And I said all that without even mentioning the 2026 class featuring Top 50 signee Gabby Minus “an absolute steal” who dropped in rankings due to an injury she has returned from and no. 2 prospect Oliviyah Edwards who can play college basketball right now.
I’ve watched Oliviyah Edwards live two times this season. The talent is unreal. I’ve never seen a female basketball player possess this combination of skillset. Kind of a mix of Candace Parker and Maya Moore. Oliviyah Edwards jumper is probably one of the best all-time for a 6’4 player. Yes, she’s 6’4 probably close to 6’5 but definitely not 6’3.

College sports fans are now expected to pay the salaries of young people they had no vote in whether they're even hired in the first place, and eventually they'll have enough and stop supporting it.

I was a lifelong advocate for college athletes to receive a stipend of some sort that would give them a little spending money to enjoy a social life since a lot of major D1 athletes really don'have time in their busy schedules to get a part-time job in order to have even pizza-and-a-movie-money.

I even fantasized about being able to send a couple hundred bucks now and then to the ones I knew had no income and families who couldn't afford to send them spending money. But I never dreamed we'd be where we are now: Supporters/fans who are being expected, even often PRESSURED, in a terrible economy, to be the ones to ante up lots of extra money to hire young athletes who are demanding more money to play college ball than most of those fans earn in 10 years.

It has gotten beyond ridiculous. Honestly? It would be less gross if it didn't feel like the college admins, and the athletes themselves, weren't coming off as so entitled to our money, and then not fully appreciating what we have done for them.

Know what I mean?

The upcoming game against Georgia is rated a Q1 game. As bad as things appear were 4 and 4 in Q1 games which is actually running similar to last season when we went 7 and 9. Neither Missouri or Texas A&M will be even close to Q1 so games on the road at Georgia and Ole Miss become huge. Games at home vs Texas and Vanderbilt should both be Q1 games have to see what happens to Vanderbilt in the next couple weeks. At SC, Oklahoma, and LSU are certainly Q1 but were huge underdogs in those three games.

With 7 Q1 games left we would have to win about four of those and not lose to A&M or Missouri to finish in top four of SEC. With A&M and Missouri wins three might do it would come down to tiebreakers. To host the NCAA we probably need six regular season wins or five wins and a couple in the SEC Tourney.

I know that doing any of this is going to be tough certainly our backs are up against the wall with the upcoming schedule. As long as we still have a chance to make this a good season I will keep hope alive.

We are thirteenth in the SEC in field goal percentage at 41 percent. We beat out Auburn, Arkansas, and Texas A&M. Were tenth in defensive field goal percentage in the league. You need to be in the top five of both to be considered a good team. In the top two to be considered a great team.

With the way social media strongly voiced how talented and deep this Lady Vols roster is following the national televised game that as the game announcers stated, “ was loaded with McDonald’s All-Americans on both teams” it is clear Tennessee is a Top 15-20 team right now despite the lack of cohesion among a team featuring 5 freshmen and 3 newcomers.
As this team gains experience with the young core of 5-star and 4-star players, they are poised to reach their ceiling which is a Top 10 team. As one social media handler who has no affiliation with Tennessee stated, this is a Top 5 roster.
GBO🍊.

I will say something controversial since were looking for solutions and not finding any. I think we may need to get rid of the seniors on this team they may not be team players and may be causing more problems than the ones that are being solved. I saw very little hustle from them on a lot of plays throughout the season. I have seen a lot more intensity out of the freshmen and we don't seem to be able to win unless they doing at least half the scoring. We needed these seniors to be leaders and I don't think any of them are. So I will be glad to move on from them and it is the coaches job to replace them with the right type players that buy in much better than I am seeing out of this upperclassmen group. If these seniors can't play better and help us a lot more were going to end this season badly.

Problem at this point is going to be retaining the young players. We really need them to stay to have a foundation.
