Tennessee Lady Vol News

Critics abound after a loss. It’s woven into the nature of social media, and tends to get amplified by our fanbase. Not that other fanbases aren’t subject to the same phenomena but ours seems to take a certain pride in it.

Just win baby, is right! 😉🤙🏼🧡
Im surprised anyone is surprised. It’s well known that folks who are displeased in any area are way more likely to speak out than those who are satisfied. And by definition, if a loss has occurred there are problems that people are displeased about. Seems simple and logical.

The guy runs a tight ship, and a well coached one. Has for over 40 years now, and a clean program. I get the rivalry hate, akin to everyone in CFB despising a Saban as an example. In truth, it would not take long for any fan base to flip their feelings quickly if that coach actually became their HC.

When Spurrier was hired to coach SC FB, at that point I felt the same about him as you do with Geno apparently. Once they become your coach you get a chance to see the whole person and not just the dreaded guy on the opposing sideline that beats your brains out with a smirk. Spurrier ended up being one of my favorite coaches at SC, candid and cocky yes. But genuine and great at coaching with a clean record of not cutting corners. It might be as you say, just win baby. But when they do it while also running things the right way you learn to respect the person behind the persona.

UT fans understandably hate on both GA and Spurrier. For rivalry purposes, not because of the wrong reasons. I get it.
@Rooster1, I respect the way you post on here, but in this case, I just don't care. Spurrier and Saban are entirely different. I don't like Geno for his pettiness and his stupidly wrong opinions, and whatever he did to piss Pat off. I could at least tolerate the arrogance and cockiness, even enjoy it a little, as I did with Spurrier. Hell, even Kiffin doesn't get my goat the way Geno does. Leaving Candace off the Olympic team was the ultimate "little man" move. And his opinion about how Caitlin would adapt to the WNBA shows his (a) bias and (b) blindness. And, I have to admit, I'm influenced by a conversation with a D1 player who saw him in a recruiting situation. No. Just no. He's not Spurrier or Geno. To me he's closer to the chair-throwing Bobby Knight or the insanity of Woody Hayes throwing a punch at an opposing player. There are some bells that can't be unrung.

the feeling is mutual retro….stalemate.

Saw an interview with Andy Landers (of all people) the other day and it made me nostalgic for the days when players stuck with a program.

He was talking about one of his teams in the 90s. How they came in as freshmen and it was just kind of a mess. They missed the NCAA tournament and had all kinds of trouble.

They got in the gym, they let him coach them and went to the Final Four as Juniors and Seniors playing for the National Championship as seniors. We’re not likely to see things like that again but man, the resilience of athletes is a tale that’s fun to tell.

This is really interesting. One thing that surprised me is the comparson of points given up off the press, aka those wide open layups that drive us all insane. The LVs actually give up slightly less points off the press being broken then Ohio State.

Which leads to the question why then is the LV press so wildly ineffective against good teams? These commentators seem to think it's simply experience within the system. I think it's the same bugaboo that anyone that watches this team would quickly identify as the major problem. That's the lack of shooting ability. I think with this pressing system you forget points given up, even those crazy wide open layups, and simply outscore them. With such horrendous offense, the LVS are simply not able to do that.

Bottom line is all three of these ladies said they actually enjoy Chaos Ball. If so this is the team for them. My problem is I like pretty, crisp, sharp basketball and detest the constant floor rolling, whistle blowing, play stoppage, middle school chaos ball. I actually think we can be pretty and successful and not wear our legs out by February.

Interesting piece of info on this site. Of the top 100 teams in WBB, only three take a higher % of 3P shots than UT. Those three teams are Richmond, Fairfield and Arkansas State. Not exactly a who‘s who of WBB. If you take it to the top 125 teams, Marshall would also be included above UT which ranks 16th overall in WBB for percentage of shots taken that are 3P's. Most of the teams ahead of UT are ranked quite low, and most live below the top 125 line.

Overall rankings

Ranked by 3P shots as % of overall shots

UT is actually ranked #12 overall.

Ohio State does not press like we do. They know when to break the press and get in regular defense. We just keep pressing either forcing a turnover or giving up an easy basket.
That might be the difference in discipline they were talking about. Disciplined use of the press leads to more disciplined execution of it.

I'm sure that is true. Basketball is a 40 minute game and hopefully someday team and maybe coach will determine that and become more discipline. You don't need to turn them over on every possession you just need to do it more in 40 minutes than you turn it over yourself. The easy baskets is the most distressing part for me. No need to ever give up an easy basket no need to gamble to that extent.

Also could vary opponent to opponent depending on personnel.

I think giving up some easy baskets is baked in the cake. I just wish they’d stop giving them up and back off the press when it’s obvious the easy buckets are beating you. Don’t give yourself to death hoping it will get better.

Be tough to hold it but here we go.

LV’s should finish around 10-6 in SEC, maybe 11-5. I think both options get them a 4 seed. They are currently bracketed as a 5 seed in latest ESPN write up.

LVs + Mc’Burger 🍔 4x in the CKC era🍊.
On top of that 3 additional Top 50 recruits it’s scary hours on Rocky Top.
And we’re still a projected 4 seed and firmly in the Top 16 according to ESPN.
This finish in SEC play is about to be legendary🍊.

They are currently a projected 5 seed. They would likely be a 4 seed imo if they can win 4-5 of their remaining games. 11 SEC wins would certainly do the trick, perhaps 10. See posts above.

We're to Jeckel and Hide to get a real gauge on this team. We have a good freshman foundation but you just don't know how the rest are going to show up. Really need couple of consistent shooters to steady the ship.

You really totally hit on our problem. We only have four upperclassmen that actually play any serious minutes and they can be good or really bad so we have to see where they are to know if we have a chance in any game we play.
