2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

It's absolutely below average and it's NOT even debatable. I love JA, but 3/4 of deep balls were underthrown. He doesn't have the arm strength to make a lot of the throws he'd be asked to make in the NFL. Hendon has a much higher football IQ than Joey. Hendon was a much better reader of defense's and again, I don't believe anyone would argue that. I also disagree that JA was asked to do more. Hooker was asked to do much more than JA and that includes running the ball..maybe if JA had gotten a 2nd year in the system, he may have been asked to do more. But, Hendon had a much better grasp of the offense, which makes sense seeing as he got a 2nd year in the system. Something I don't see JA getting. I do agree that JA could be a practice squad guy, similar to Hendon. But, Hooker went higher in the draft than Aguilar will go. And I'm not 100% sure that Aguilar even gets drafted. I'm really pulling for JA to catch on with some NFL team, but hoping he wins his lawsuit and that some college team signs him for one last year. He's a great kid and deserves it.
I know you have already been debunked.

But I just saw where you tagged me!

The "underthrown" deep balls are on purpose to increase the likelihood of them being completed. He likes to put a lot of air under them. He many times effortlessly threw the ball 50 to 60 plus when he wanted to. He could probably throw it about 70. He maybe has a stronger arm than Hendon. Hendon was excellent at hitting them in stride on the deep ball, but he also overthrew his fair share. Joey was tops in the country in deep ball completion % the last few years.

Like against ETSU when he rolled out to his left, and launched one on the run about 60 yards down the field, right over a guy in his face to Mike Matthews.

Please explain how THAT is below average arm strength?? So like every QB in D1 can do that? Saying Joey is below average is like saying he has the weakest arm in the FBS. So every FBS QB can make that throw?

We also heard all offseason about the things this staff was adding to our scheme and we did. We didn't even run crossing routes before this season. We ran plays out of the pistol for the first time and threw the ball over the middle a ton whereas we hardly ever did in 21-22. We also went tempo way more in 21-22 because our offense was simpler. Heup took far less risks with Hendon than he did with Joey.

Hendon just never put the ball in harms way, which is a plus and was better running the ball. However, when things went awry, he wasn't very good at getting to a 3rd read and making plays with his arm. Hendon also had a better run game.

I hate to diminish Hendons stats here but... go back and watch, he had so many WR's WIDE open running by themselves where the DB just wasn't looking, Hyatt just ran past them or ya just throw it up to Cedric and he makes a play. Most of our passes were low risk deep balls, comebacks and bubble screens back then.

Teams started to figure it out so we have had to slow down and add more wrinkles to our system.

I don't know how Joey does in 2022, I don't know how Hendon does in 2025, but I'd guess similarly.

To this point, Tennessee is yet to lose anyone of note to the portal but we feel like there are still some possibilities. We would list guys like Jordan Ross, Caleb Herring and Edwin Spillman as low on the worry list but still on the worry list. Neither of the three have got a new deal in place and the next few weeks are critical in getting them renewed.

Cant lose any of those guys

Last yr everyone could see they werent even trying to fill all the open holes the roster had and this yr its completely diff

Really has to be or next yr would likely be a big disaster.
After losing Charles and Thomas it made no sense that we let them both go and didn't fill a spot with somebody.

Spillman is the one I’d be upset if we lost. The other two have flashed but let’s be honest they haven’t shown much in terms of production. I’d rather them stay (and expect them to) but if they were to hit the portal I don’t think we’d have an issue finding their replacement.

Ross is a stud

Sounds like we are either going to roll with GMac or bring in a guy thats a depth piece to compete for the job, which also leads to it being GMac. Just dont see us competing with TT in a bidding war for Sorsby. Unless he just isn't worried about taking the highest bid.
Nothing sounds like that at all.
Looking at guys like Sorsby or Hoover is the complete opposite of that.

Will we end up with top level QB from the portal? Who knows ?
