Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I'm a little confused why everyone keeps saying it takes several years for his defenses to show improvement. His first year at OSU his unit improved from 59th the in 2021 to 14th in 2022 which was his first year. In 2023 they improved to 3rd and than in 2024 they were 1st in total and scoring defense and national champions. In 2021 he had Oklahoma State at 4th in total defense. That's impressive at Oklahoma State and since he left they have become the laughing stock of college football. The more I look, the more I like. Seems like a Grand Freaking Slam hire by Heupel to me.
Also seems like the more talent he has, the quicker the improvement. We take our top dudes and throw in some portal studs and we should be somewhere in the 30-40 range next season.

If we had a top40 defense this season, we're likely in the CFP, probably even hosting.

We did with Bob Shoop.

The no-name Jancek was far better.

Don't get it, but will hope for the best (and patience from fans for 3-4 years needed to get going) if so. Hopefully a long term play.
The evidence really doesn't support this narrative Devo. Not sure why you think this? I bet we show significant improvement next year.

damn if what is rumored is true he threatened to kill himself in front of his wife (who just had twins), then drove to the assistant's house and threatened to kill her, then she called the cops, then he fled the scene, gets arrested

that is awful for every woman involved in that story
Scary stuff.

Kind of hope we can take some DBs and DL from PSU. It will help with the transition and they have some talent on that defense.

I was going to make a comment that Michigan really only fired Moore because he wasn't cutting it and got him on a minor infraction of an undisclosed, unprofessional relationship with a staffer (like Petrino)

Getting arrested immediately is clear this is waaaay more serious.

Tells me the staffer is either underage (unlikely) or he forced himself on someone and there's credible, obvious evidence of it. This was swift.
I was typing out something similar (both of your points) when I saw your post, so I’ll simply concur. Worse than Mel Tucker across the street (so to speak) if the popo show up and detain.

In today's football, you better be ready to install your entire system in a month, and do that every year. The days of your starters having a PhD in your system before they touch the field are over.

Luckily, I just don't buy that narrative. I don't think it makes sense. This is football not rocket surgery.

Lile any other coach, he got more talent and more kids that fit his vision for things, so the defense improved over time. Just like anything else.

For the first time since Phil, Cut and Chief (before third & Chavis) were together I feel like I can just sit back and enjoy the ride of Tennessee football played at the highest level.

It feels good, morans.

Now would be the time to review all of their O tendencies and shortcomings and let Knowles and crew have the O's back on D.

Just fix the kicker issue.
