Heupel says he's not leaving

Well, not that I ever thought he was a serious candidate for another job but, ... is that good news or bad? I don’t understand the mentality of VOL fans that think we couldn’t do better if he left. Programs all around us are upgrading or at least trying to. In the end, you get what you settle for.
I don’t understand how some women don’t realize where we were when he came here and how far we have come since then

Penn State has gone all in on BYU's Sitake..He's been their target for awhile...If he takes it I think I'll start a Heupel to BYU thread and watch the coach worshipers squirm.
Yeah, and Brohm is likely their fall back, then maybe Dabol. Not one person connected with them or CFB has mentioned Heupel at all. Maybe UNC will open and you can start a Heupel to UNC thread. Or when Michigan or FSU open next year, we can have fun with that.

I hope that this is true and he does not leave or gets poached. It is never a good time, but this would a horrendous time to get on the coaching carousel.

Close to 3 weeks ago I posted that the Memphis coach Silverfield would wind up at Arkansas...I missed a chance to start Memphis rumors. In fact Heupel's system would work well at Memphis and the athletes they attract.

I don’t think anybody truly wants him gone, we just want effort and give a damn. That Vandy game left a disgusting taste in peoples mouth that probably won’t wash out until we kick their asses in Nashville next year.

“I wouldn’t want low expectations. That’s part of why I want to be here,” Heupel told Low. “We’ll win big.”
Penn State fans really upset about that quote on twitter thinking that was a dig to them. But Heupel is saying that he understands why many Vol fans are very upset with the way they lost to Vandy. He wasn't talking about PSU at all. Off course PSU has high standards if you are firing a couch averaging 10 win per season and made the playoffs last year.

History has shown that we in fact cannot do better every time we fire a coach for performance. Luckily Pruitt was fired for McDonalds bags.

Fair enough, but I personally don’t see any evidence of that. He went backwards here in year 5, he went backwards every year he was at UCF, those are just facts that can’t be disputed. This is the era of the transfer portal and transfers just running rampant, you reload now not rebuild. If you’re rebuilding in year 5 you’re running way behind. All the evidence I see is he hit his ceiling. Could I be wrong? Yes, Do I hope I’m wrong? Yes, but everything so far doesn’t point there. The schedule for next year is on paper much more difficult, 8-4, 7-5, 6-6 or worse is entirely possible, if it plays out that way is that gonna be okay for stability’s sake? Not for me, but to each their own, we’ll watch it play out and see.

GO VOLS!!!
He went "backwards" in year 5 and in year 3. He went "forwards" in year 2 and 4. Guess what, every single coach has years that go "backwards" from one year to the next. Saban, Smart, Dabo didn't win the Natty every year...they went backwards.

You don't like the guy. You like other guys that aren't proven at this level. That's your prerogative. But currently he is punching above the historical win/loss record of UT over 121 years.

I'm not leaving - Nick Saban at LSU
I'm not leaving - Nick Saban at Miami
I'm not leaving - Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss
I'm not leaving - Urban Meyer at anywhere hes been
I'm not leaving - Mark Stoops (too soon?)
Tommy Tuberville said the same thing while at Ole Miss. Two days later he was introduced at Auburn.

I am glad Heupel is staying, yes year was mediocre, but team is young with major defensive player injuries before season started. Defense has to be locked down and development needs to happen. Recruiting class addresses a lot of needs and the future is bright. We start a new streak against Vandy next season!

Get on it. Go ahead and start Tulane rumors too. For giggles.

Yea, poor context, but I like it either way people want to interpret it😉

Yeah he definitely could have stated that better and can see how it can be interpreted both ways. The amusing thing about this whole P. State thing is the threads it created on this site with no shred of truth for any of it. Truly amazing but this site is amazing in many ways.

Josh Heupel says ‘we’ll win big’ at Tennessee

“I wouldn’t want low expectations. That’s part of why I want to be here,” Heupel told Low. “We’ll win big.”

The “low expectations” comment is an interesting one. I don’t think he’s saying the expectations are low at Penn State, because everyone knows after Franklin’s firing that they’re not. I think he’s more likely saying that he wouldn’t want folks to think he’s ok with how things played out this season in Knoxville and that he’s not bothered by high expectations.
