Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

We have a different opinion on 1 thing, sometimes, related to the Vols. Hardly something to have a problem with another person over! We both like to nag each other on it.

"If I were two-faced would I be wearing this one?" - Abe Lincoln

I have to dislike ATL United because Nashville has a team now, so that's the only thing...
Soccer is for commies.

Damnit they’re going to be really good by time they roll into town next year.

The storylines next year:
- Lane Kiffin of LSU returns to Knoxville
- Golesh of Auburn returns to Knoxville
- Arch Manning of UTexas as a junior comes to knoxville
- Tennessee returns to Columbia SC first time since 2022
- Tennessee travels to Vandy to attempt to avenge a most embarrassing loss, potentially against Pavia again.
- Third Saturday of October in Knoxville
These are absolutely fantastic games and I want us rolling into them riding an Abrams tank not a milk wagon!!

No . You’re acting like they were a top ten team that had a few bad plays go against them.
Wasn’t close to beating Bama or Vandy.
Played bad football about as much as they played good football.
I don’t entirely disagree with you. We played a lot of bad football on defense and offense at crucial times.

But to be devils advocate for a second: Make a field goal and we beat uga. No pick 6 against bama and it’s a one score game in 4th quarter. Don’t let OU run a strip back for a touchdown and we’re up 2 touchdowns going into the second half instead of struggling to keep in it. If we’re undefeated going into last week who knows what the team plays like, maybe doesn’t get shafted by a bogus rtp at the end of first half and plays the second half with a killer instinct instead of an apathetic one.

We literally were a few plays from having an entirely different perspective on the season and could have been saying this team overcame and overachieved instead of saying this team played a lot of inconsistent uncomplementary football and wasted what could have been.

I need help, VN. Was Drake Maye, a Vols 🔒, until UNC hired Mack Brown ? Or am I wrong, as usual ?
You do realize Maye dad and several kids have played decades of ball at UNC, so I doubt it.

They live in Charlotte area and are diehard tar heels.

Maye is the youngest of four brothers: Luke and Beau played basketball at UNC, with the former shooting a buzzer beater in the Elite Eight en route to winning the 2017 national championship.[47] Another brother, Cole, was a pitcher on the Florida Gators baseball team which won the 2017 College World Series.[1]

Drake grew up family friends with quarterback Mason Rudolph, as their fathers played together at UNC.[48] Drake's father Mark played quarterback at North Carolina (UNC) in the 1980s prior to playing briefly with the Tampa Bay Buccaneersand Raleigh–Durham Skyhawks.[1] Drake Maye is good friends with Sam Howell, who preceded him as starting quarterback at UNC.

Hope that DLine is heavy enough to hold their own in the trenches. I question that.

You list 3 LB rotations but we run 2 more often. I don’t know how it shakes out if we play more 3 LB sets or a couple of those guys fade and transfer out or become special teamers. But I am hoping with refortified dline and db groups we can take some pressure off the middle of the defense and they become a strength instead of a weakness. Expecting to see the following featured more than the rest next year: AC (assuming he doesn’t go pro), Spillman, Telander, Perlotte, and some Harmon. Maybe the freshman Rouse too.
That’s just who’s there now. Jaylen Thomas looking likely will help bolster the interior, I’ve got high hopes for Campbell too as we all should

young team. get to the porthole.

Not entirely true my friend..say what you want about Nico but the offense was truly predictable last year and I’m not buying the whole Nico playbook malpractice BS..if you put Nico in the offense we had this year i don’t think we lose some of those games..solely on the fact he’s a better runner than Joey.i truly believe last year Josh gave 100% control responsibilities to Haz and fumbled.fast forward to this year Josh was more involved in calling plays,it was a completely different look in comparison.

I don’t think haz put Nico in the best position to score points.if you go back and look at the comments he made i didn’t take it as him saying we sucked from a depth standpoint I think he was implying our OC playing calling sucked and he wasn’t wrong.
Bro you are so off base. If we had Nico we go 6-6. Heck maybe worse. If you can’t tell JA was a big upgrade as a leader in the locker room, as a technical passer, as a decision maker, and commander of the offense, then I’m inclined to let you die on that hill.

Nico had rare raw athletic talent and that’s about it.
