No one called a good game last night. You realize Heup has all the say, right? At any time this year he could’ve said this **** ain’t working and we’re making a change?

While defense is the glaring deficiency, it’s nothing more than a scapegoat to say our problems end there.

Why did that defense do great? Elite talent. Kind of like when butch looked great but he really wasn’t due to kamara, etc. We were packed with NFL level talent on that 2nd best defense. We aren’t going to be that lucky most years. The defensive staff have shown they’re not capable without elite talent.

Our defense has sucked 4 out of 5 years under this admin. If you excelled at your job 20% of the time and sucked the rest how would you be viewed as an employee?

I’ve seen many employees like that. I fire them. The university should to.

That isn't true, but let's assume it is. How does Heupel fix the defense in one offseason? It would require him to do things he hasn't shown he is willing to do in his time here. 1) Make significant staff changes on the defensive side of the ball and 2) Revamp the defensive side of the ball by being very active in the portal.

And that points to the bigger issue here. The issue is Heupel, ultimately. If he wants to be here (or be in big boy football in general) long term, he is going to have change some fundamental issues he has in how he manages this program.

Need a new O-line coach too. Vandy schooled our oline with 3 stars. WR coach replace him too. Mathews drops at least 1 big pass or TD every game. OC probably need to can him. O second half points against Florida, 3 against Vandy. This team is okay scripted but are awful after halftime

Lol, what happened when last years “ Elite Defense “ met up with GA and Ohio State? I’ll answer for you. They had their Arse handed to them. That was a Good Defense, but not Elite. TN Defense has been hot garbage, 4 of the last 5 years. I agree with you that the Defense should be fixed. Changes need to be made on D Staff. Hope Heupel will make the tough, but wise decisions soon.

It’s like some of you forgot the last 12 years before Heupel. Be thankful.

When you are in base and Vandy just runs the ball in the a gap and gets 8 a pop, that’s personnel not play calling. Fixing a defense is much more about upgrading the Jimmys and Joes rather than the play calling. So fix that with NIL or coach changes.

And yes losing McCoy and Gibson did hurt immensely. Flame away.

We are all thankful for what Heupels done. But not satisfied. Whats wrong with wanting more? Heupel either grows or gets left behind. All the top SEC schools are getting better and we just stay the same

Ah yes the ol jimmy and joe excuse. I’d encourage you to look up let’s say our last 4 classes VS vandys last 4. It sure ain’t jimmy and Joe buddy. That’s just the easy answer.

I've said it before, Glen Elarbee was Josh Heupel's best man at his wedding and they've known each other for decades.

I suspect he'll ride or die with Elarbee unless he gets a head coaching gig somewhere.

You're dumb, that's the point to have horses on the team. Who TF wants a team full of players playing above their ranking? Our defense hasn't sucked, it's been serviceable most years..2022 was bad considering the offense we had.
We've not had any alphas on the 2nd and 3rd levels. Thats a personnel not coaching issue. The last really good LB we had was.....We've not had great LBs on this team since 2010, if we're being honest. I'm in no position to say that anyone that plays college ball sucks. I will say that they're not a good fit for the team that they're on. Turrentine isn't a good fit, for what is being asked of him.

It actually is. If you think coaches that's been coaching 10 years forgot how to coach over the summer, you're stupid. We lost 2 really good safeties that were really good in run support. We dont have that this year.

Possibly, but Josh is from the Midwest and those folks tend to have a small but very tight circle of people they've known forever and can count on when the snow is really deep or the combine needs fixing.

Elarbee doesn't come up in HC job searches, as far as I know, so I suspect he a career line coach, maybe an OC one day.

Personally, I think Heupel likes the stability of having guys who aren't too ambitious on his staff but I'm not sure that's the best strategy for success.

McCoy, Gibson, Hood, Redmond…nothing wrong with that crew. Now, the safeties, who are coached by Banks are a different story.

“Dumb”. Comment being made by a clown trying to tell me we don’t want to coach/develop people up to a higher level. Really should’ve tried to fire your brain up (if possible) before typing that one.

It’s exactly our coaches jobs by the way. If that was the case we wouldn’t need coaches at this level. A bunch of 4-5 stars should just be able to come in, line up, and perform as expected, right? Imagine you trying to make that point preceded by the word “dumb”.

The staff is played millions yearly to do this job. Bring people in, coach them, develop them above expectations and status quo. Bet you really felt like you were doing something typing that one out. So we usually recruit a 12-15 class- by your logic we should never perform better than 12-15, right? Not our job to make them better?

Let me help you. What you want out of staff is exactly what Vandy is doing right now. Overachieving and development.
