Yes, but as I tongue in cheek stated, their solution is just as absurd as the situation we are in now:Since when has 31 trillion better things stop them from stepping into something, College football is big money, gambling and has big time donors to congress critters pockets, schools are eventually gonna want some type of balance
LOLYes, but as I tongue in cheek stated, their solution is just as absurd as the situation we are in now:
Yes, you are an athlete being paid to play sports for a university but no, don't be silly, of course you're not a professional athlete being paid to play a sport...... you're playing for a college that's paying you and they don't have professional athletes working for them, they have students they recruit specifically to play for them and they do pay them but you're not a professional athlete because we say you aren't a professional athlete.
That's the absurdity of "Congress will fix this."LOL
I like that end comment, we're paying you but you're not a professional athlete, you're a student that we happen to be paying you to play a sport
I hope the lawsuit fails and JA moves on with his life. If the ruling goes their way it will be <5 years before someone wants to continue to play as long as they are enrolled in college. Then another lawsuit and before we know it we have 33 year old men playing collegiate sports. It needs to stop and i hope it stops now.
If the ruling goes their way, hopefully Congress will enact laws allowing the NCAA to have some power again. Which is not something i hoped to ever say.
Why can't a 30yr old play college football though? There is or wasn't an age limit to my knowledge.
What if a guy went to the military out of high school for 12 yrs, then decided to go to college and while there decides he always wanted to play collegeball and tried out as a walk-on and made the team.
Thing is people are getting paid out in the open true legit money, it's no shock people will try for it
Well that's what it's going to come to. It may even get to the point that at least for the bigger schools it's gonna be more like a club team that pays the University a licensing fee to use their name, likeness. That's the absurdity of "Congress will fix this."
Congress WILL destroy college athletics by allowing a system of collective bargaining for the players vs the schools so the schools can, in turn, establish "guard rails" for pay, transfers, etc, etc. The players can then negotiate pay, transfer rules, eligibility rules (playing for 10 years or so,) and whatever else they can bring to the table.
THAT sounds like saving college athletics?

Days of how college was is gone and won't be coming back, at this point some stability is needed, be portal, money or age limits
I know it's about JUCO years, the age stuff was in reply to a post saying grown men playing in collegeThere isn't an age limit and never has been - so someone who starts college at say age 28 and plays football has the same number of years as the 17-year-old.
The entire question with the lawsuit is around whether JUCO years counts or not.
I agree with you but don’t understand the NFL reluctance to take a QB that’s a couple years older. Many of the quality backups are older and a late round draft pick would seem to be a chance to get a backup without a lot of contractual baggage from a trade. Pavia’s brash attitude is more appropriate for a starter but Joey seems like a guy that good join a team and contribute as a second or third string QB.I doubt it. I think the reason why he joined Pavias lawsuit is because he inquired about getting drafted and found out he wouldn’t be. Just like Pavia.
It does need regulation and we keep saying that WHILE we cheer on suing to have regulations that do exist nullified.Well that's what it's going to come to. It may even get to the point that at least for the bigger schools it's gonna be more like a club team that pays the University a licensing fee to use their name, likeness.

I don't care about the ages but some people do, my comment was there needs to be stability whether it's pay, eligibility or age(for those that care)College football has NEVER had age limits and should not have them! You are just noticing them because of the two QB but there have been players in the over 25 year old category forever.
True but still better than being in the league than not. Just need QB1 to go down, except it looks like he at least motivated Dak to stay health and not get hurt this year. Guess Dak remembers how he put Romo to pasture hahaI’m aware. Not being a 1 goes to show throwing a football 400 yards isn’t enough to get you there.
Can’t decide if Juco is really that much different than prep school. I can talk out of both sides of my mouth.Assuming that JUCO years don't count, the only by product of this ruling will be that some players out of high school may decide to go the JUCO route to hone their skills and beef up before moving to D1, rather than sit on the bench.
I'm not sure that is a bad thing.
Unfortunately, college football as we knew it died a couple of years ago.My issue is that people on VN will cheer if "We get Joey A for another year!!!!!" then when another school uses our involvement in this case to keep some guy for an extra year it will be "Why do these people keep ruining college football by having guys play so long?"
It's like a little kid pushing, pushing, pushing on a Lego house they built then crying when it finally falls over.
UT and Tennessee have been involved in most of the lawsuits that have let transfers run wild and we'll cheer now as eligibility requirements are weakened by the courts....... then we'll cry because college football died. Duh.
Allow me to rephrase and clarifyWhy can't a 30yr old play college football though? There is or wasn't an age limit to my knowledge.
