As this goes, you could see a QB come in as "a freshman" who has been lighting up JUCO for 2 years and essentially expand on the portal EXCEPT JUCO doesn't count on eligibility.

Since most college players don't make the league, this is the way.

Collect NIL for 6 years instead of 4. While granted, JUCO NIL isn't SEC NIL but it's 2 extra years of ball, of fundamentals, and training just in case you DO have what it takes to make the league.

Sweet deal.
No one in JUCO is pulling NIL.

I wouldn't be too sure as I've heard people in HS are pulling NIL.

While it might be a stretch for most players, if the old "get your grades up" JUCO pipeline can restart, we could get the "you're not quite there yet" guys to do a couple of years to get ready to be "freshmen" at the next level.

It's a great idea. I think Tark the Shark at UNLV did a lot of JUCO transfers in basketball back in the day.

Basilio will lose his mind!! He told his listeners and posters to shut up Joey wasn’t getting another year. But in actuality he could. He’s only played 3 years and this season. His other years were covid no JCs played, a season at Diablo Valley and 2 at Appy St. He’s on his 4th at Vols. I think one year was red shirt at College of San Francisco. That comes to playing 4. The 2 JC seasons was/is the basis that allowed Pavia to get his 2 extra years at Vandy. So Joey has a chance for the 2nd year with Vols. I’m all for it.
Sports talk J is smarter than Basillio and his show is way better for Vols fans who are limited on time in ummm life.

I just keep imagining last year's defense with this year's offense. I also imagine what Joey could do with another year in CJH's system building more chemistry with this receiving corps. We're going to need another experienced QB in any case if Merklinger leaves. Why not Joey if he gets another year of eligibility? Dude's a baller, interceptions notwithstanding. If our D keeps just one score off the board in the 3 games we've lost, we're 11 and 1 right now. One thing I know for sure is that rolling with one true freshman and one redshirt freshman in the quarterback room is not ideal, and is not going to happen.

Joey was a nice late addition that prevented this season from being a total disaster, however he played his worst in close games when the outcome was on the line. His turnovers were Arian Foster type catastrophes (Bama pick 6, OK fumble 6 etc..). I wish him the best moving forward, however think we should move on regardless.

Don't listen to that goofus
Best show on youtube with blue chip breakdown too. GREAT for their own reasons. Don't be a hater for something u have given little time too or may not be aware of something that others can enjoy. You should at the very least say who is better and that you would recommend but NO you might be a coward and be cared of criticism.

Players in high School pulling NIL are top recruits and typically have been considered top recruits for awhile. Not only that, but typically their NIL's are from national brands like Nike, Gatorade, Adidas, etc.

No JUCO player has enough relevance to get a deal from a national brand and no JUCO is gonna have the financial backing to support any sort of relevant NIL.

Ok so question to VN- if Joey can come back next year do you want him? I do
Sure. Why not. If we had a mid defense we’re the no.1 team in the world. Still though, they’re effing this sport up. Make a semi pro league and pay em. Leave us the rest.

The OK fumble was on the tackle completely missing his block. Can't put that one on Joey.

Not to mention maybe the backups don't have to always be a freshman....

Ah yes because we are already writing it as fact that Fazion is starting the second he steps foot on campus.
It's a weird situation. If Gmac starts next year and plays well, I highly doubt he's going to get benched for Fazion in 27. And I also highly doubt Fazion is going to sit 2 years. I think Joey coming back is actually best case scenario next year. Fazion can learn a lot under him and take the reigns his Sophomore year.

He has started to falter a little down the stretch, but I think he would be better next year, no doubt. But you play with fire bringing him back. Merk is likely gone regardless, but Mac probbaly leaves too, leaving you with JA and a true freshman. You'd have to bring another guy for depth purposes.
Not sure about that. Against OK, Heupel should charted him on the first pick rather than wait til a 2nd one happened. Play-calling at times has also cooled down when JA was red-hot. I think the number of picks you can actually lay on his doorstep are fewer than the most-jaded levy against him, and more than the most optimistic fan blames on others. I'm okay with the number of picks I directly attribute to him.

I'd take him back next year and let him compete with Brandon and GMac for the starter. That gives you a darned competitive 3-deep at the position.

I agree that an NIL market for "6 year guys" would have to develop, but what would matter to me if I thought I MIGHT make the league but I'm not a blue chip prospect is the extra 2 years of work on my game.

The idea is to have a pipeline for late bloomers and development. If the JUCO guy doesn't develop, you've not spent a scholarship that busted.

It's a lose-lose for 4 year tradition but a win-win for late bloomers and broadening the experienced player recruiting pool.

Wrong. Hooker got much better his second season, so would Joey Aguilar
Hooker had far more upside than Joey. Even in his first season in this system he threw far fewer ints and made fewer mistakes.

I think most fans ignore just how much Joey's numbers have benefitted from a very good WR corp.

I dont mean to bash Joey because he is a good dude and more importantly he is a Vol. But GMac and hopefully Faizon have more arm talent than Aguilar does/will.

Which means neither of them could take it from JA.
Not sure what the problem is. I wouldn't let the better QB go to salvage two sub-pars, but rather portal replace them if they run from the competition they couldn't win.
Your assumption is that we can get guys in the portal better than G-Mac. The portal isn't just full of SEC level QBs, you know.

It's definitely not optimal if G-Mac decides to transfer.
