I think you're confused. PSU was set to pay him 8 million/year offset by any job he got. He's getting 9 million/yr from VT. The only thing PSU has to pay him is 9 million to get out of the contract which is basically what he was due in salary this season.

I have not seen it reported anywhere that his VT contract is $9M/yr. The speculation is that his contract will be in the range of $6.7M/yr for 6 years, which amounts to ~$40M - i.e. the remainder of this PSU buyout. So, he gets $9M from PSU now, and the remainder of the $49M from VT.

Well I think he would certainly start coming here so if we take him I assume we’re not fully behind GMAC. Ideally GMAC takes over and plays well and we just land a depth portal QB. But hey if Sam wanted to come here, it’d be hard to pass even if the staff was confident in GMAC

Let's be honest, it's much "easier" to exemplify such qualities when you're a walk-on. Not much other choices.
