Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

If I had control of things, we'd take it back to conference affiliations in the 80's/early 90's and the BCS system with the old conference affiliations with the Bowls. All of you whiners looking for equity (more teams into the playoffs) have lead to the destruction of college football.
Totally my fault. I really wanted it to become based on money and a free for all. That’s what I wanted. Equity and total chaos. Lol

My gosh guy.

We have what we have now and we need to embrace the nfl model or we will keep seeing years like this year where coaches are fired mid season and fans checking out early.

We all wish we could go back to the BCS but we can’t and it’s time to change and adapt.

These are good points. When I played, albeit in the Stone Age and only through high school, it was amazing how bad my tackling became when I faced a D1 caliber athlete. My fundamentals didn’t change I just suddenly couldn’t get in position. I played safety and suddenly looked like our safeties currently look. Against comparable athletes my tackling magically became good again. We practiced it constantly and I never remember practice not being live and we had leather helmets.
Amen, and leather helmets is incredible.

I have an athletic kid who plays pretty high level in a non-football sport, and I have to remind myself of these facts when playing the really good teams makes my kid’s team look worse. They don’t forget how to play or become slow, but the other team’s speed and precision makes it look like my kid ain’t even trying to compete.

There are not 24 teams that can win or are remotely worthy of a national title.

Best thing would’ve been to keep the bowls as they are with the big ones played on New Years Day, and after that then seed a four-team playoff. Maintains the bowls, maintains the regular season.

But then a bunch of TV executives and conference commissioners might not be able to afford that place in French Polynesia and we can’t have that.
While I agree that 24 teams do not have a shot… We are becoming the NFL and we need to adapt. Coaches are getting fired mid season for not making the playoff because it’s all that matters. Fans are checking out when teams are not in contention. I know many who have already moved on to basketball and won’t attend another game. They should have kept it at four or embraced an actual full playoff at 24. IMO

It’s about $$$ and keeping fans involved. No one cares about the belk bowl or other crap bowls now. They are obsolete.

It's the jimmies and the joes, always has been and always will be. If this were not the case then there wouldn't be all the emphasis on recruiting and the draft and such.

Have to think we're not looking to shell out major NIL for another QB. IF Merk leaves, I do think they'll look to bring someone with experience, but GMac and Brandon are already taking a chunk of NIL. Probably look for someone similar to Joey to compete with GMac to start.
One in hand better than two in a bush.

Look, I understand this is reality and I can’t change it, but I’m still going to complain. We already HAVE an NFL. I don’t get why we need a second one.

So much of what made college football unique and its own thing is being thrown away to chase dollars and I LOATHE it on a really deep level.

Again, I know it’s inevitable. I know I can’t change it. But I can hate it!

I don’t imagine I’ll ever stop watching college football, but I don’t think in the long run I’ll end up caring nearly as much. I can already feel the bond loosening. Used to be if there was college football on, I was watching it. I didn’t care if it was some random MAC game or what. I consumed every minute I could. I haven’t had as much of that urge in the last 4 or 5 years.

Means VT's contract is likely in the $40M 6yr range. I think the clause in the PSU contract was to only pay to make up for the next contract.
I think you're confused. PSU was set to pay him 8 million/year offset by any job he got. He's getting 9 million/yr from VT. The only thing PSU has to pay him is 9 million to get out of the contract which is basically what he was due in salary this season.

This is something that LSU and Florida fans do not seem to understand. They think the right coach and they are right back to winning titles. What they don't get at all is that a coach of that caliber is not going to want to take over those programs if he's already got enough to win where he's at. Going to see a lot more of that. Seems like the only people who are not saying Kiffin is staying at this point are Lane Kiffin and Jimmy Sexton.

Word is Knox has told teammates he's going to be in Oxford next year. Recruits already seemed to know. Not only did Ole Miss not stop recruiting, they are trying to flip two Florida commits.
