"Higher education isn't what it used to be" .... Absent of any context at all, that is an empty statement.
The importance of higher education is, and has always been, dependent upon the field of work a person is interested in entering and their career goals and financial aspirations.
To make a blanket statement such as "Higher education isn't what it used to be," as though everyone has equal ambitions in life, and fields of study are interchangeable is absurdly over-simplistic.
Quite frankly .... it's what a redneck would say.
Lol. If what you say is true there wouldn’t be countless people with worthless degrees and mountains of student loan debt. Standards are lower. Curriculum is full of worthless classes. Many of the degrees themselves are flat out useless. I’m not making a blanket statement but outside of a handful of degrees there isn’t much return on investment. Not everyone can major in “diary forensics” like you.
