Game Thread: Lady Vols v UT-Martin, Away, Sun. Nov 9th, 3PM, ESPN+; (Win 72-61)

Plz get out of this press. . It’s going to get scary when we play teams that can actually make layups on the backside of the press.
They have to play it to get good at it and make it effective. And it brought us back this half.

Barker and Wolfenbarger were certainly discussing the finer point of the back end after that last time they broke it.

52-46 after three. Letting a decent-shooting team representing Pat Summitt's alma mater stay within a few baskets in the final quarter of the "Pat Summitt Heritage Classic" would be a very very bad idea. This isn't UT-M's Super Bowl, it's like their Super Super Bowl. If they can smell that W, they will go all out to get it.

I still don't understand why the coaching staff lets them keep jacking up 3's 5 seconds into the shot clock instead of going inside.

I’m confused why we’re shooting so many 3s? Coach Kim has made several statements early on this year that she is looking to score inside more this year due to not having as many great 3 point threats. UT Martin’s tallest player is 6’1”. We have a clear size advantage pretty much everywhere. Why the heck are we not playing more inside?

Just about any WBB game I’ve ever watched consisted of multiple missed layups by both teams.
Come up with some better than that.

Problem is the players don't seem clear on what she's trying to do differently either. If she's going to take something away, she needs to replace it with something.
Is this what happens when you put a D-2 coach into a P-4 position? It looks like she is second-guessing herself in year 2 and not sure if they should play fast or slow and controlled, which is leading to the players being unsure. They are passing up open looks and running a half a** offense right now. They are not committed on either end of the floor from pressing to when to take a shot. This needs to be fixed and that starts with the coaching staff having a clear vision and commitment to style of play. Today is obvious that that vision is not there yet this season.

when we have they have packed the paint, hence the 3s. they’ve given our bigs trouble.

It seemed to me they weren't playing their all-out press until toward the end of the first half.

Next time on offense look at the set we run. We never establish post before the shot goes up and you’ll find the post players roaming on the perimeter.

i also wonder if some of it has to do with losing so many three point shooters. we don't really have any real three point specialists like last year. to me, last year was slower/not as athletic but had better leadership and buy-in even at this point in the season last year
