Game Thread: Lady Vols v ETSU, Home, Fri. Nov 7th, 6:30PM, SECN+

Zee doing what good players do and making it work. Not finishing great around the rim right now but she stayed aggressive, got to the line (15 FT attempts), made them well and shot the ball well from three.

When she stretches the floor it makes us really hard to guard. When her finishing cleans up she’s going to be really really good. I think she will be a top 10 draft pick along with Barker.
Zoe's game simply will get better and better and that will bode well for the LVs. And I believe Zee, Barker, and Coop will be formidable when the SEC begins. I also believe Mia and Jaida should get plenty of playing time. GBO.

I think they are trying to take what the defense gives them.. it’s about finding the right balance.
This team has players that could do damage driving and attacking the basket.

My biggest frustration was the failure to penetrate. When we did penetrate it resulted in an easy bucket. You have to put pressure on the defense and make it break down. My second biggest complaint was all the missed layups.

I saw little improvement in half court offense nor full court press .....maybe later down the road.It would be nice to see some screens and set plays when they have to play half court offense. Threes went in against an inferior defensive team . I feel/hope that these two things will improve as the season progresses......
I disagree. I think, especially in the fourth, we slowed it down and played half court.

Don’t think so and Kim didn’t seem to think so in the post game press conference. When you have the talent we have compared to the talent of ETSU, you’re the one that dictates the game. The lesser talented team doesn’t. Let’s just say we disagree and that’s okay.

The 3s with the exception of a few that were missed rimmed out. Those were good looks and in most situations they worked the ball around the perimeter then took the shot.
If they went down in the 2nd half as they had in the 1st half then what you or CKC are saying would be irrelevant.
In both games, they have had streaks making 3s.
Once they get in rhythm and the offense starts to flow a lot of this stuff will take care of itself.
I don’t agree or disagree with anyone talking facts about the game.

Why would you not agree with anyone talking facts? That would obviously be dumb, pardon the French sir.

Kim answered the question, “were they good threes.” Her blunt and to the point answer was an emphatic “no”.

That comes down to personal opinion. For example, someone (coaches, players, fans etc. ) could say that CKC mass substitution patterns aren’t good strategy (coaching) but if/when it works does it matter?
Those 3s for the most part weren’t bad shots. They worked the ball around the perimeter a good bit.
Eventually more of shots will start to fall. The team chemistry is starting to set in.

That’s what I thought…
Wassup, Rooster? I noticed you arrive after the off season, guns ablazin’, I might add, earlier this week. I thought it best to bide my time for a day or so before welcoming you back.

So far, so good. Kim did not look happy for most of that post game press conference. I understand it may not be easy to control but she expresses herself at a mile a minute! I hope she turns back the rpms during practice and while she’s coaching.

Chuck, it’s gonna be a great season for fans of WBB. I think UT can be special again this year, I am excited the season is underway, the players are getting so much better skill wise in the sport, a lot of very good teams.

Definitely worth listening to CKC’s postgame presser. Main points- She was not a happy coach. Not pleased with team attitude after loss: team needs to grow up fast and they are not translating practice points and game plan to actual games, some of this is to be expected for game 2 but there is much work to be done.

I wouldn't want to be around Pratt today. Bad 3s and lack of rebounding are not a good combination regardless of talent level.

Nice to see Coach Kim stressing too much standing around on offense, need cutters through the lane...I believe, at least one of our fine posters mentioned that during the game...After all, to have a motion offense, you have to have players in motion.

I know Kim tends to find the negative details after games, but I do think she genuinely is very upset how the team has responded to the loss in practice and in this game. Despite the 50-point win, I kept feeling more lukewarm than excited. Perhaps it was just watching LSU a couple of days ago and wondering how will, Mya, Mia, and Boyd look against the otherworldly combo of Johnson, Johnson, and Williams. I though my reaction might also be that I was tired but then heard coach and realized that something was missing from the game: We were flat! I am still excited by the collection of newcomers but also getting a more realistic view of their current limitations. Our freshmen class will ultimately be awesome if they choose to finish their careers here, but almost all Freshmen are erratic during their first season and I sense that will be mostly the case here. I realize this is a way too early take after a couple of disappointing performances while also still feeling in my gut that we are still in rebuilding mode and may take another year or two to be at our peak. Coach is also needing time to continue to tweak her system with the data she gets from each game. Despite my bellyaching, I do expect better performances as the season progresses. And, FREE CIVIL!!
