Against UGA, Vols get a fumble up 35-30. 3 straight runs & a kicked FG.

Defense immediately gives up a TD & 2 PT Conv to tie it.

Against Alabama, Vols get a fumble down 23-13. Explosive run play gets it into FG range. False start, bad snap. Punt.

Defense immediately gives up a TD to go down 30-13

Against OU, Vols get a fumble up 17-16. 3 straight runs. Punt.

Defense immediately gives up a TD to go down 23-17.

Two out of the 3 losses you out gained your opponent offensively. Losses are by a combined 26 points. Had a 14 point swing & a 20 point swing in 2 of the 3 losses.

sit his ass down.
What’s insane is how much they have tried to give him playing time and stay in this program. But he just doesn’t care and has gotten worse as the season has gone on. AP alluded to McCoy, Gibson, and Boo being some of our highest paid defenders. I bet like hell Heupel and the staff wishes they had let him walk and saved the money. Plus could we have seen a different defense without him? How much of his antics really rubbed some players the wrong way?

Anyone else think Josh seemed mad in his presser today? I liked it. Made me think he wants to drop 100 on FL and Vandy if he can and win out. I don’t think he likes being questioned or fans questioning him. I liked the attitude how he answered some questions today.
I believe he's pi$$ed too. I hope he does hang 60 on those guys but the downside to that is that it will require quick scores and that keeps our defense on the field longer. I hope they find some balance with scoring and time of possession. Seems like we are always on the wrong side of time of possession.

This is just one that took 30 seconds to find in a thread littered with people "being out on Heupel" and seeing the end of Heupel era, etc. I didnt waste any more time screenshotting others, but clearly some people blacked out after the 2nd half of the game.

That's just in the game thread in this forum. Fans being done with Heupel can be found throughout the FF, Twitter and other social media.

Yeah...but, who is calling for Heupel to be fired in this thread, on this page, within the last 5 minutes, between posts 63,521 and 63,524?

If we put up 60 then it does not matter how long the defense is out there. Time of possession is meaningless. Today's game is about turnovers and negative plays.

Yep which is why a bunch of us wish all the negative whining and griping about Heupel not being perfect and needing to do a bunch of things better or he will lose his job in a few years. It’s not calling for him to be fired but it sure doesn’t help him feel very supported. It’s negative energy and a distraction that the media loves to run with. We all know he’s not perfect and so does he but it doesn’t need to be blasted on social media 1,000 times a day. The response is always the same “but I didn’t say we should fire him “.
It is a cop out way to say it. They are technicaly saying I don’t want him fired this year but if he has not become one of only 4 active coaches to have a NC within 3 years he has to go without saying they want him fired.

It allows them to play both sides of fence while looking like Angels

VN Public Service Announcement:
When any Volunteer sport’s team struggles, it is important to remember that about 30% of posters on VN are not Vol fans. They are trolls. Even some who post everyday.
Just 30%? Seems a lot higher to me

College football coaches are increasingly choosing to stay at their current schools rather than pursue open jobs elsewhere due to a mix of financial, strategic, and cultural factors. Here's a breakdown of the key reasons:

🏦 1. Massive Buyouts and Contract Security

Many coaches have lucrative long-term contracts with hefty buyout clauses. For example, Wisconsin’s Luke Fickell reportedly has a $25 million buyout, making it financially difficult for schools to fire him or for him to leave without major financial implications. These contracts often include: [fansided.com]

  • Guaranteed salaries
  • Performance bonuses
  • Restrictions on termination
This creates a strong incentive to stay put unless a truly irresistible offer comes along.

🔄 2. Coaching Carousel Volatility

The coaching carousel has become increasingly unstable, with record numbers of midseason firings. In 2025 alone, 12 FBS head coaches were fired, 10 of them in-season. This instability makes some coaches wary of jumping into uncertain situations, especially if the new program has: [cbssports.com]

  • Unrealistic expectations
  • Booster interference
  • Poor administrative support

💰 3. NIL and Transfer Portal Challenges

The rise of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals and the Transfer Portal has dramatically changed the college football landscape. Coaches now face:

  • Constant roster turnover
  • Pressure to manage player finances
  • Less time for mentorship and development
Some coaches have expressed frustration with these changes, preferring to stay in environments where they’ve already built trust and systems to manage these complexities. [foxsports.com]

🏆 4. Expanded Playoff Incentives

With the new 12-team College Football Playoff, more programs believe they have a shot at postseason success. This has raised expectations but also made staying at a school with a solid foundation more appealing. Coaches may prefer to:

  • Build a contender over time
  • Avoid starting over with a new roster and culture
  • Capitalize on existing recruiting pipelines

🧠 5. Strategic Career Moves

Some coaches, like Lane Kiffin, are weighing whether to finish what they started at their current schools rather than jump to a bigger name. Staying can offer:

  • Legacy-building opportunities
  • More control over program direction
  • Less political interference from boosters or administrators [usatoday.com]

For any of you who manage a team, what do you do when your team is making simple mistakes left and right?

Like it’s been a week of clerical, thoughtless, inexcusable errors. There’s no problem with the process. There’s no issue with capacity. Teammates just making bad errors all over the place.

You stated it better and more precisely than me. Plus you also get the e-cred of saying, "I told you he would never win a championship". Statistically speaking you have about a 99% chance of being correct saying that about almost any coach.

The thing I first notice about these types of “after the fact” posts that look like they wish to be taken as rooted in a knowledge of principle is that, if so, the same should have applied to and declared about VFL Jauan Jennings.

I think the same about most talk about bad play calls, and many like things.

Any external influence that they would share that could be causing them to be distracted? Like they all suddenly learned they're related to Weezer or McGill? 😂

Seriously, since there are few true coincidences in life, just wondering if there's a root issue you can address: external influence, team drama you're unaware of, one of them got bad health news and shared it with the others, etc?

Yep, we are all pretty smart with the benefit of hindsight. Seems like somebody should coin that phrase.

PSA…

Do not ever start home remodeling projects. They never end. Now we can do the dining room. Let’s do the kids bathrooms. Do we need a pool?

When does it end?!?!!!
It's called perpetual discontent. Definitely a modern disease.

Similar to people needing to fill their emotional holes with buying stuff, having an endless number of children, etc.

And I mostly blame the wives for all of it. Being a sports fan is a much cheaper outlet of meaningless hope 😅
