One of the greatest Unsolved Murders in history......

Arnold Rothstein is shot.

On November 4, 1928, at 10:15 p.m., a telephone call came in to Lindy’s restaurant, on Broadway in New York City. The caller asked to speak with one of the establishment’s regulars. Arnold Rothstein excused himself from the table, took the call, returned moments later and handed a long-barreled, pearl-handled pistol to his associate, James Meehan. He parted ways with Meehan and ventured off to the Park Central Hotel, reportedly headed for Room 349 there.

Within an hour, Arnold Rothstein – the man known around town as “The Brain” and “The Big Bankroll” – took a violent jolt of hot lead to the abdomen. Hotel employees saw him stumbling and bleeding badly at a hotel service door before collapsing. An ambulance rushed him to Polyclinic Hospital, where surgeons struggled to remove the slug and perform a blood transfusion. New York Police Detective Patrick Floyd, a familiar face to Rothstein, tried to glean some information.

“Who shot ya, A.R.?” Floyd asked.

Rothstein, true to form, refused to name his assailant, replying, “You know me better than that, Paddy.”

Some other things to keep in mind...

Dalton Knecht didn't "arrive" really until he dropped 37 against UNC, that was the 7th game of the season. Before that game he was averaging 17.5 ppg. He also had 7 points against Georgia Southern, 2 against NC State and just 6 against Tarleton State (all 3 in a row)...basketball is very much a sport about runs. As a team we're built better to offset poor nights from Ament or Ja'Kobi than we have been in the past. We shot the 3 well, just didn't need to take many and with our bigs we have so much more scoring now it's going to be a completely different looking season than before.

We do need to see our guards play better though, none of them really stood out (not counting Ament as a guard). We saw some flashes though, I like Burg's game and wish we had him on campus all off-season.

Chaz's first big game was against Virginia in game 5...I say we give Nate time to show what he can do before we start with the pitch forks.

If his floor is a quiet 18 and 9 every night I'll take it all year.
I just saw the 2nd half...lots of turnovers just in the 2nd half...seems like team chemistry just not quite there yet.

I find it kind of ironic that AP and other beat writers have more or less stated that the staff wishes they got Nico more reps in 2023 so he would have more experience for 2024, yet here we are with Merk essentially being one foot out the door and we have him as qb2 and have only played GMac in one

People shouldn’t get hung up on draft evaluation hype. Many times based on potential.

Don’t do this Vol fans.

Nope, but playing 11 guys 12 minutes didn't help it much either...

Some of the regulars in the basketball forum (and myself too) think Barnes is going to have a deep rotation the next few weeks to get as much film on his own team and players as he can. Then will trim down the rotation and minutes.

Heather Dinich, whom is spot on usually with her CFP playoffs team predictions has :

4 SEC teams , Alabama, Georgia,Texas A&M and Mississippi
3 Big 10 teams, Indiana, Ohio State and Oregon
2 Big 12 teams , BYU and Texas Tech
1 ACC team. Virginia
Group of 5, Memphis
Notre Dame...

In her first brack coming out tonight...
Asking for a friend, what rated team has Oregon beat and they barely beat Penn Stste who even Nico beat.

You think BYU don't expect great things from Dybantsa as a Freshman? How about Boozer at Duke? Fan bases that see that top 5 rated highschool player on your team starting as a Freshman are definitely going to expect greatness... Its the nature of the beast...

Yeah NBA is the most confusing pro sport of the major ones too. An elite baseball player is likely going to do it in college in a big way. Pretty rare that a NFL player that's good didn't also play at a high level in college...but with the NBA you got some guys that didn't do a damn thing in college and have become good to great NBA players.

A good example, Darius Garland he had 4 games at Vandy and one big one against Liberty...got hurt and sat the rest of the year then went into the draft. Now in year 6 he's a career 19 ppg and 7 apg PG that's averaging 33+ mpg...

BYU…prob fair. Duke has had enough of them to know that the Fr might not dominate the game.

I'd prefer Georgia Tech to beat Georgia and knock out Notre Dame. BYU and Texas Tech play this weekend and if Tech loses I don't think Big12 gets two teams in unless BYU finished undefeated regular season and drops the Big 12 championship game to Utah, Texas Tech or Cincy

And who has ND beat? No-One! BUT they are going to get a home game

Darius Garland was drafted by the Cavalier with the #5 selection in 1st round of NBA Draft..

I mean Duke has had a few misses from top 5 guys though...so I think that fanbase just wants to see team wins they don't much care about individual players.

Dariq Whitehead was the #1 player in 2022...28 games at Duke never scored 20 points in a single game, in fact Nate's game last night would have been better than Dariq's best while at Duke

Dereck Lively II was the #2 player in 2022 in his 34 games at Duke he never scored 15 points in a single game he was a block machine though.

I get your point, fans are going to have high expectations for top 5 players. Completely agree...but 18 ppg and 9 rpg is pretty much where my expectations would be especially in a Rick Barnes offense. I don't think he's going to do what Kevin Durant did for Barnes though...that Big 12 conference was absolute trash outside the top 3 teams...SEC is going to a lot tougher competition for Ament.

Never will be bigger than Chaminade defeating Virginia with Ralph Sampson playing center.. believe Virginia was ranked #1 at the time...
Always will be in the conversation of "Greatest Upset" in history...........not just sports.....all time history.

Call me crazy, but when we recruited him I was ecstatic because I really think GMac, not Brandon, can be the QB of the future for this team. I’m not disqualifying Brandon at all, but I see a lot in GMac that was be believing he can be the next big thing.
Me too, he’s a 6’6 QB that nimble. Big arm, can put it on a rope. Not to mention could go out there and drop 40 on the hardwood.

It was a very sloppy game. Our guys didn't seem to have any chemistry last night. I hope that changes pretty quickly or this could be a long season. We do have a lot of playmakers, but they just didn't play well last night.
A bunch of new pieces. They are still learning to gel. It will be hard to replace ZZ and Mashack. They'll be fine.
