I'd play George MacIntyre

George needs to add about 50 pounds of muscle.

New Mexico St Aggies will snap him into two pieces

If we don't we would have at least tried, Mac has not been given a chance to see what he can do. It was said coach wanted him to put on some weight before playing, meaning there was no way, regardless of how he practiced he was going to be the starter. Since this season is gone, anyways, why not give him a chance? I am meaning gone as far as playoff is concerned. Me nor you know how Mac would do because we have not seen enough of him. I do know he wants to be at UT and was highly sought after. I just think it would be good to see how he does in a live game.

I feel like my IQ dropped 3 points reading this quite possibly worst post ever on Volnation

Are you seriously on crack .really .We been praising this dude from game one and he has some bad moments and we ready for him to walk the plank .You seriously think GM would played half as good as what Joey has

Trolls gonna troll

And if we don't and roll into 2026 with a brand new start with no experience? Going 7-5/8-4 with Gmac getting a couple of starts and some momentum in 2026 is vastly different than going 7-5/8-4 with zero experience starting QB.

Heupel needs to think of the long term program.
He made the playoffs with a volleyball player at QB who barely played his first year.

Considering Matthews and Staley are going to be here next year, it wouldn't hurt to get live reps with them all. If we are going 7-5/8-4 this year, better to do it with guys who will be here next year.
Speaking of looking to the future, weren't we considered a very young team this year? I think the vast majority of our players are freshmen and sophomores. I mean, weren't we a bit over optimistic to expect this to be THE year, just because we hit the jackpot at QB?

I spend most of my time in the basketball forum these days, but I did want to make this point. I think we need to stay the course, except for possibly some coaching changes on the defensive side. We definitely need some help at db.

edit: More on topic - I definitely think, based on a small base of information, that Macintyre is the future at QB, unless he can be beat out be the incoming freshman.

2/3 of our roster is made up of underclassmen. I'm 10000% in support of turning page to future.

And in regard to Gmac vs Faizon, only one in here now. I'd really like to see what Gmac and even Merk are made of instead of just using "spring practice" as the competition.

NO!
We HAVE TO WIN against Vandy and Florida!
A backup FRESHMAN won't do that!
IF WE CAN'T MAKE IT, NEITHER CAN VANDY!

GBO!!!

I decided to look it up. I have constantly said this season is now a repeat of 2023. The whole premise of me wanting Heupel to play for the future now is because there is zero difference between where we were post Bama game in 23 (second loss and eliminated from the SEC East / Playoff) and where we are now with a loss to OU.

2023 Joe Milton 8-4 Record: 2,813 Yards 20 Touchdowns 5 Interceptions / 300 rushing yards 7 Touchdowns

2025 Joey Aguilar 6-3 Record: 2,737 Yards 21 Touchdowns 8 Interceptions / 85 rushing yards 2 Touchdowns

Say we split the baby and finish 8-4.... Who is going to give one ounce of care or weight to Joey finishing the season with 3,500-3,800 yards and maybe 27-30 touchdowns? What does that get us? Nothing. There is no difference in 7-5 or 9-3 with him padding stats and not being here next year.

But going 7-5 or 8-4 or 9-3 and seeing exactly what we have with atleast 2 QB's who WILL be here next year is more valuable than stat padding. We should have thrown Nico out there to see what we had in him so Heupel could spend all the 2024 spring tailoring and adjusting the system to fit him. We should do the same now with Merklinger and Gmac.

Heupel's seat is fine right now. It isn't not warm or hot or getting hot.

But if the QB play early next year is shaky and awful, it is going to be wolves out for the guy. The only reason to keep playing Joey right now is if you think there is even a remote chance there is some legal case for him to get another year.

Fla, and Vandy will probably beat us this year, play for next year and the future. If we beat Fla and Vandy, with Joey you are right and i am wrong. But i am just afraid they will both beat us, but I sure hope not. And if they do we have wasted 3 games for our next year starter which could make a difference in making the playoffs next year with our next year qb gaining valuable experience.

If you start George in Florida and he gets a serious injury what do you do when Brandon changes his commit? George is still basically out of high school and this is the SEC. That's a terrible idea. No offense but no.

George isn’t the #2 right now. I’m more for Merk getting the start the next 3 weeks in practice and against NM State. He’s gonna transfer out this offseason so I’d rather see what he can do before we run him off.

😳😳😳
If you think Merk is leaving for the portal at seasons end are you suggesting that we let him audition for his future team? Please tell me this post should have been blue font.
