If we don't we would have at least tried, Mac has not been given a chance to see what he can do. It was said coach wanted him to put on some weight before playing, meaning there was no way, regardless of how he practiced he was going to be the starter. Since this season is gone, anyways, why not give him a chance? I am meaning gone as far as playoff is concerned. Me nor you know how Mac would do because we have not seen enough of him. I do know he wants to be at UT and was highly sought after. I just think it would be good to see how he does in a live game.
He made the playoffs with a volleyball player at QB who barely played his first year. And if we don't and roll into 2026 with a brand new start with no experience? Going 7-5/8-4 with Gmac getting a couple of starts and some momentum in 2026 is vastly different than going 7-5/8-4 with zero experience starting QB.
Heupel needs to think of the long term program.
Speaking of looking to the future, weren't we considered a very young team this year? I think the vast majority of our players are freshmen and sophomores. I mean, weren't we a bit over optimistic to expect this to be THE year, just because we hit the jackpot at QB?Considering Matthews and Staley are going to be here next year, it wouldn't hurt to get live reps with them all. If we are going 7-5/8-4 this year, better to do it with guys who will be here next year.

I spend most of my time in the basketball forum these days, but I did want to make this point. I think we need to stay the course, except for possibly some coaching changes on the defensive side. We definitely need some help at db.
edit: More on topic - I definitely think, based on a small base of information, that Macintyre is the future at QB, unless he can be beat out be the incoming freshman.
Fla, and Vandy will probably beat us this year, play for next year and the future. If we beat Fla and Vandy, with Joey you are right and i am wrong. But i am just afraid they will both beat us, but I sure hope not. And if they do we have wasted 3 games for our next year starter which could make a difference in making the playoffs next year with our next year qb gaining valuable experience.
If you start George in Florida and he gets a serious injury what do you do when Brandon changes his commit? George is still basically out of high school and this is the SEC. That's a terrible idea. No offense but no.
George isn’t the #2 right now. I’m more for Merk getting the start the next 3 weeks in practice and against NM State. He’s gonna transfer out this offseason so I’d rather see what he can do before we run him off.
