Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Poor Auburn. No football coach and they have Steven Pearl as their basketball coach!
You know Steven Pearl is probably about as qualified to coach football as basketball. I know things are tight down there on the Plains. Maybe he could pull double duty. There were already rumors to that effect anyway.

Franklin was fired because he had elite talent, ranked 2 or 3 in the country preseason, and couldn't win against teams that The School of the Blind had beaten. That said, this is not the year to be looking for a coach, to be sure.

AP’s comments were essentially that we need to play the young guys we want a part of this team next year or else they may leave. Alluded to them being guys that haven’t play a lot so far.

I honestly thought of GMac with those comments
GMAC should start every game the rest of the way. Season is shot, get him some burn so he’s got the experience for next season and beyond.

What's done is done. At this point, it's all about the future. Win out, keep our recruiting class together, add some more kids, focus on roster retention, and be ready to be active and aggressive in the portal. When all that is done, Heupel needs to take a look at his staff and upgrade wherever possible. Fix the weak links. Unfortunately, we've reached "wait until next year" status. So let's make sure next year has a better outcome.

That’s not true at all, Franklin typically destroyed lesser opponents. He was fired bc he could never win a big game. Sure, they had some bad losses this season, but the built up issues that got him canned were the constant losing to OSU, Oregon, etc.

This is a problem to an even greater degree on other teams, but it's something I've noticed. Guys you wouldn't typically see in certain situations find themselves being depended on to play at a high level. It's why quality depth has never been more important. We know how talented we are but I wonder if we remember how young we are? Because the talent can be misleading. Sometimes experience beats talent when talent doesn't have as much experience. The key is to have both. We'll get there.

It's always a dice roll but this year, picking a new coach is extremely precarious. Because a lot of programs are going to be reaching hard for their guys. A lot of less successful Billy Napier-types (at ULL) are about to get P4 jobs.
Let's think about this: which job is better between Auburn and Arkansas? Because it seems they would be going after the same tier of coach. I think LSU, UF, PSU are clearly better. Beamer is firing everyone to try to save his job. If that job opens where would you put it? I think it's better than Clemson now. I know some might disagree, but Columbia is the flagship of SC, the State Capital and that seems to matter a lot of times when there's more than one P4 school in your state.

Austin Price referencing potential big portal exodus this year on the pod. Doesn’t sound like the locker room is doing too well right now
can’t be true, We are the culture champs of the NCAA, nobody in their right mind would want to leave!!

in all honesty with all the coaching changes I can see a wild portal season and it could effect everyone in a positive or negative way.
Now days, games are won in the offseason and seasons ride on how you do!
We will see how Heup does this year but I believe he better step up his game or fall behind.

If you haven’t figured out that is what the new world is going to be, if you can be 8-10 wIn regular season you are going to be happy or in the constant state of chasing the greener grass.

UGA is 3 ref calls from missing the CFP in an expanded playoff. Alabama missed last year.

AND $ankey agreed to 9 game SEC schedule next year without an expanded playoff. Just Dumb.

A lot of Tennessee fans better reset their expectations or UT is going back to the desert.
The question is, will fans spend the exorbitant cost for 8,9, and occasionally 10 win season with a playoff birth every 4 or 5 years, with an early exit. Especially considering a 16 team playoff?

Just read something from the Ole Miss mod on 247 about Lane Kiffin. No idea if it's true or not. These writers say a lot of things, but he says LSU was an option for Kiffin until the Governor did that ridiculous press conference where he attacked everyone from his own AD to Jimmy Sexton. I guess Sexton probably has some hard feelings about all that. Seems like the sort of guy who would.

He says that there's going to be an offer from Florida and it will be up to Kiffin whether to stay or go. It's the only opening they seem concerned about.
