Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

With all of these openings, I'm slightly concerned that if Heup A) sees the culture slipping and isn't sure how/if he can fix it, and B) sees 2026-2027 as almost inevitable and genuine "hot seat" territory due to the difficult schedules, he might actually entertain some offers knowing he can avoid true hot seat talk and start over fresh somewhere else.
Yeah, and we don’t want to be in the coach market this year, and certainly not late in the cycle.

Why would you care about hot seat? Take your payoff and go fishing…

This is fair but I will say it is rarely like we think it will be in the preseason. I will say this year seems very strange. We are just a very inconsistent team that has many flaws. We are also very mistake prone and are extremely gifted at shooting ourselves in the foot. Heupel has several things he needs to address but the reality is that there is way more parity than there has been in years. Georgia is some favorable officiating and breaks from being a 4 loss team. The margins are razor thin and we have got to be a more disciplined team than we have shown under Heupel. I think he really needs to evaluate what is leading to so many dumb mistakes that are the difference in winning and losing. I'm still glad he's our coach and think he can continue to grow. The SEC is just so competitive with 8-10 teams with similar resources to us competing for 4-5 conference playoff spots. I just refuse to live or die with the only measure of success being a championship. People are just begging to be disappointed with that type of mindset. It's a game and entertainment.
Great perspective. Thanks

99% of people who become SEC head coaches are extremely egotistical, are already rich, and want to win/be perceived as winners. Very few of them, unless old or completely out of their depth (Coach O), happily take the money and run.

There's also the fact that if you stick around too long at a P4 program and get fired, it's hard to get another P4 job. Resetting your clock somewhere else is a thing. Fresh start, new culture, new buy-in, can avoid the mistakes you made last time.

See Urban Meyer at Ohio State.

I think his relationship with DW trumps this….

Amazing at some of these comments about a team that possibly goes 9-3 in regular season after losing starting QB in before Spring... I can only imagine the great threads when the teams were a 5-7 or 6-6 team for many years... Good grief ...
That’s not the point. We can see what this team could be yet lack of discipline and baffling coaching them keep them from playing complimentary football. I would agree if we had Vandy’s talent but we don’t and Joey has for the most part played very well.

We constantly don’t take advantage of other teams weakness and seem to pull them out of any weakness via our coaching schemes. A team with this much talent should win 8 or 9 games, it’s what we see that makes folks frustrated.

Need some help.....was at a law enforcement conference and did not see the Bama game and only saw the final score... unfortunately my dvr hates me so even that didn't work...anyone know where to find a replay? I am a gluten for punishment...yes

DW is also the man who can fire him. They aren't buddy-buddy at a level where DW would never fire him, because being overly loyal to Heupel puts DW's job on the line.
Never said that but I don’t think we are near that point. JH played this year with an arm tied behind his back and I think DW gets that.

Do you ever get tired of pontificating your useless opinions?? Oh wait you are neighbors with Vols who played on the field so that gives you credibility. Hint: you really make this place unbearable Please take another vacation as you will not be missed.
I enjoy his post even when I do not agree with him.

AP’s comments were essentially that we need to play the young guys we want a part of this team next year or else they may leave. Alluded to them being guys that haven’t play a lot so far.

I honestly thought of GMac with those comments
Not GMac. We've got a few freshmen receivers that should rotate in a little more, Morris at RB needs a few snaps and should probably be returning punts, Brame at TE...probably a few guys on defense but it seems like they're already rotating in a lot of freshmen on defense.
