As much as I hate to admit / say it, Heupel is not able to win the big games. Georgia was, clearly, ours. We win that game, the momentum for the entire team changes. It tells the team they can beat higher ranked teams as well as their SEC nemesis. Tennessee NEEDS a Nick Saban / Kirby Smart type coach. We just can't seem to recruit that type of coach so we get stuck with 2nd rate (or worse) coaches. We have also shot ourselves in the foot with our secondary time and time again under Heupel. That is our Achilles Heel. Heupel cannot continue down this path if he wants to remain in Knoxville. I hope he can turn this ship around. 7-5, 8-4 or 9-3 will not cut it. A bowl game is a participation trophy. I hope he can last at UTK but not going to hold my breath. GBO! Go Vols!We don't have the instinct to win a title.
Winning a title requires discipline and leadership. Heupel seems like he's too much of a "cool guy" to instill the right discipline.
People look like a bunch of little kids with their participation trophies bragging and hanging their hats on going to the playoffs last year. We got embarrassed and were a laughing stock after getting an admission ticket over a couple of others who had a decent argument. You’re absolutely right, should be a baseline expectation. The amount of money, resources, and “talent fees” put into this program there is no excuse….That's also where I am at. Making the playoffs regularly should be baseline expected with our resources. But then to get there and get blown out? That's a problem.
Heup and Banks both coached fine tonight. We lost because we got physically beat in the trenches; because we made two many mistakes; and OU gave Joey some confusing looks that he wasn’t prepared for.
Our inability to get push from the OL for our run game to get going was the deciding factor.
They basically manhandled us. That is a roster issue. This year was always going to be challenging. Aguilar’s above average play gave us false hope early in the season. We just didn’t have enough quality players in enough depth.
