Is Heupel incapable of seeing what needs to be done? Or is it something else?

I have been a huge Heupel defender. I really like him as a coach but that like is wearing thin now. I can handle giving up points and yards to UGA and Bama. They have tons of elite play makers. But giving up almost 300 yards and 21 points to a bottom feeder like UK?

Surely Heupel sees what needs to be done right? He HAS TO right? Or is he simply incapable of seeing it? I would have no issue with firing Banks at halftime and letting Inge call the defense the rest of the way. Would it be a disaster? Could it be much worse? If Heupel doesn’t get rid of Banks at seasons end then, and I cannot believe I am saying this, I want him gone.

This defensive performances are unacceptable and embarrassing.
JH and Banks didn't get dumb in one year. Top shelf D last year lost too many impact players to graduation, portal and injury. I mostly blame JH that he wasn't aggressive enough in the portal for DBs, when this was a known issue in spring ball...though got one good one...our only good DB. This is just my opinion, and same concept w/ JA, and why the offense looks different this year than w/ Joe and Nico. They didn't have the ability to operate JH scheme and had to account for their skill deficits in schemes.

Amid all this defense discussion, I’m struck suddenly by the fact that both our losses stemmed from horrid mistakes on OFFENSE.

Make the FG against Georgia, or score touchdowns in overtime.

Blown blocking assignment leads to safety against Bama, pick six on a bad throw.

I’d also point out that Fulmer was ultimately done in not by refusing to fire an assistant, but by the performance of an assistant that replaced an assistant he fired.

Actually, you could argue that he was done in by being unable to retain David Cutcliffe.

Anyone who saw the Crompton in person understands this.

Both of them should pay back their NIL money. They both threaten to leave and they don’t and they will never see the field. Sad
I mean, both guys have legitimate injuries, dude. I can assure you that both of them would MUCH rather be out there playing.. Especially considering being out is doing nothing but hurting their draft stock.

This is more of a coaching problem. It’s year 5 & we still haven’t developed any real dependable depth back there. It’s unacceptable on every level, & the two guys in charge(Martinez & Banks) need to be held accountable. If they’re not, it’s gonna eventually cost Heupel his job here. Up to him.

‘24 was the total outlier year in their 5 year tenure here. Last year they had NFL talent all over the place that hid their coaching inadequacies. It’s that simple.

Agreed - Corner Injuries were bad luck, however not aggressively targeting Safeties and a 3rd Linebacker in the Portal were huge misses.

Yeah in hindsight, we might should have let the diva walk. Maybe coaches will prove us wrong and coach him up, but he's been half a ing it all year as far as I can tell. Haven't watched film, but from a live perspective, I think he's been a part of several coverage breakdowns in crucial times. I know it's popular to give #4 a hard time. Personally, I think Redmond is going to be a baller, and it up playing in the NFL.
Redmond is tested by the best the SEC has week in and week out and it will force him to become a great player. He's been taken advantage of some but these days he's in the picture almost every time. I see him improving every week.

I almost bet you at the press conference today when asked about the secondary the reporter is going to get the "look" from Josh. We all know what it is

Redmond is getting a course this year and he is battling. I think as we go down the stretch he is going to start winning some battles. The experience is going to pay off for him. He wouldn’t have gotten near the pkaying time without the injuries. But for a Freshman he is holding up pretty well, he is getting battle tested right now. GBO

This would almost be a blessing not to make it. Embarrassing as the loss was last year in the CFB a repeat would dwell in it. 9 Game schedule for next year and to be honest I do not want to slide in unless the Defense does a 180 degree flip. OK and @FL and Vandy games will be challenging. Two are at home that is a blessing but physically not the best spot.

It’s always…always…better to make the dance and come up short…even by blowout…than to be sitting at home watching.

If you’re in it, there’s a chance to win it. Give me that chance every time.

Florida's DC. Auburn's and South Carolina's DCs don't appear too shabby either. All could potentially be out of a job at the end of the year.

Great idea! Let’s assume that the already fired coaches are better than the coach you want to fire!

They have pretty solid defenses that have been let down by their offenses. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a defense that isn’t a liability?

And is on the verge of not making it again while losing more games in the regular season compared to year 4. That’s called regression

Kirby’s been regressing the past two seasons…wonder if he’s next on the chopping block.

Anyone saying that Kirby has regressed over the past two seasons has mush for brains.

Kirby didn’t go to the playoff in 2023. He made the playoff in 2024 and is about to go back. But sure, that’s regression.
