Is Heupel incapable of seeing what needs to be done? Or is it something else?

Regarding our defensive backfield and the criticism of Banks, I dont think people are accounting for who we are without enough.

Losing Jakobe Thomas to Miami hurt us. Plus Jourdan Thomas had to take a medical redshirt this season. Combine that with the fact that we have been without both McCoy and Gibson at corner all season and its no wonder we have been so bad in our defensive backfield. We can say "next man up" all we want but you cant lose that much production and not expect it to negatively impact you. And now Colton Hood is banged up. So, yeah, its going to show up on the field.

Not having McCoy & Gibson out there has absolutely devastated the entire defense. When Gibson went down week 1, I knew we were in trouble.. That being said, the pass defense is completely unacceptable. If it were up to me, I’d fire Martinez & Banks the day the season ends, regardless of how the rest of the year plays out.
Both of them should pay back their NIL money. They both threaten to leave and they don’t and they will never see the field. Sad

Florida's DC. Auburn's and South Carolina's DCs don't appear too shabby either. All could potentially be out of a job at the end of the year.

And those guys will have better options out there.

Tennessee is gonna have to convince a DC who wants to rehab their career (if they were on staff that got fired) that having to play in tandem with an offense who’s goal is to be the worst team in the country for time of possession is better than other jobs with more balanced offenses and scheme.

It's kind of a catch-22 with this offense and TOP. If we slow it down, the offense is much less effective. The offense probably feels like they have to score every possession because of the state of the defense. The defense also owns the TOP problem too. Last night, the defense gave up drives of 8:35, 4:52, and 5:23. If the D could get off the field on 3rd down, the TOP would look better.

The DCs on the teams I mentioned are also on teams with very poor offenses, so much that there is a lot of pressure on the D to perform every single game, because they know it's likely their offense won't give them many points.

It's infuriating
Yeah in hindsight, we might should have let the diva walk. Maybe coaches will prove us wrong and coach him up, but he's been half a ing it all year as far as I can tell. Haven't watched film, but from a live perspective, I think he's been a part of several coverage breakdowns in crucial times. I know it's popular to give #4 a hard time. Personally, I think Redmond is going to be a baller, and it up playing in the NFL.
You’re right, he’s noticeably been beaten by players who seem much faster, or he’s just plain out of position. Doesn’t seem upset about it either, when he gets shown up so bad! Needs to be benched for a while and go with next man up. If THAT makes him want to transfer, he needs to hit the road

Most points Kentucky has scored this season except when they beat Western Michigan was last night. Were going to need to score in the high 40's to over 50 to win out. Defense is pathetic and even if we find a way to win the rest of the games we need to finally change DC before next season. If we lose a couple I am sure that will happen fans will insist on it.

How am I joking? Alabama was great that year, Georgia had a great team, South Carolina had maybe their best team ever, Florida won 11 games, Vandy won 9 games, Manziel won the Heisman. 5 of those teams are better than any team in the SEC this year.
I agree with you on this one...one of the reasons Butch and Dooley failed so much early on was they were facing legit top 10 teams 4-5 games in a row (including those like Oregon sprinkled in out of conf)

2011 Bama, LSU, and Arkansas all finished in the top 5. Bama’s only loss was to LSU, LSU’s only loss was to Bama in the championship, and Arkansas’s only losses were to Bama and LSU.

We just so happened to play all 3 that year, plus an 11 win South Carolina team

And that Georgia team’s record was only so bad because they were decimated by injuries beginning with our game

I agree, I think considering they're are doing a good job. You lose basically 1, 2, and 3 (boo carter, who isn't playing like what i thought he was capable of atleast) cornerbacks that's pretty tough. That is a HUGE chunk of your nil money on that side of the ball. Cornerbacks are sought after and paid more because of the scarcity of the position. That's a lot of dough to swing and miss on.

If the defense could get a few “3 and outs” here and there, they’d get more rest.

The problem CJH has is the success (second year) he had right out of the gate. Had he been like Butch and just threw away a few years, the expectations would not be what they are. This system of plug and play players (offense mostly) and QB’s at that is why he is so good.

Take Jones, Dooley and Pruitt with these players and the W/L records would be horrible.

Heupel went to the playoffs in year four so your entire point is pretty stupid

Another Butch beauty...... The game in Autzen was over by halftime and Butch knew he was making a QB change the following week and only gave Peterman 4 passes in the second half at Oregon.
