Tennessee Lady Vol News

Don't know their system for rating teams, but they rate our offense just a fraction below number one offense Sc. Defense 34 all this I am sure is based on last season they have no numbers for the current one.
It's hard to rate a defense like this Lady VOLS. We give teams 30 more possions but we steal back half of them 🤔

That's interesting because so much of our offense was generated by our defense. I guess other teams' offenses operated at a pretty high level once they got the ball into the front court? What am I missing?
Our defense is very particular - we were top 15 in the country in steals and turnovers forced, but 320th (of 362 teams) in FG% defense, for example. I imagine that might play into it.

I believe Bart Torvik's pre-season ratings actually take into account this year's rosters and they have us as #9 in adjusted offensive efficiency and #11 in adjusted defensive efficiency: Verifying Browser...

Giving up those uncontested layups caused that weak FG percentage way to many in SEC play. That is the biggest area for improvement. Ineffective trapping I think will be way down this season.

It’s probably always going to look a little like that. With Kim’s style the other team doesn’t get nearly as many looks at the basket but the ones they do get are really good.

Generally doesn’t matter if you’re taking 20+ shots more a game. So what if your opponent shoots 50% on 15 layups.

Our FG% defense only hurt us against the best of the best. I thought UConn was the only game we REALLY defended both in the full court and the half court.

I think were not giving up as many out of the press this season. A lot more speed should mean better court coverage and hopefully even more turnovers.

Yes I expect our back line defense to be better as well. More blocks at the rim in transition and more rim protection in general. With Zee, Jersey and Janiah we should have a more athletic, bouncy presence around the rim.

A lot of last season one of the slower players was at the back of the press so it was hard for them to make plays against quick players moving downhill.

Kim was saying Jersey is quick enough to even play the top of the press with her length. I’d rather see her sending them to the third row protecting the backline.

I also think we will pick off a lot more of those long passes teams throw over the top of the press. We have the team speed to go get those now which will also limit those open lays.

Delicately said my friend.....Sweet girl, but she constantly lived in the trail position.

I also watched that game a few nights ago. I’m not ashamed to admit I got teary eyed when we went on our run in the second half. When Sam Spencer truly gave her all for Tennessee and took over the game for about two minutes with her defense and passion. That arena had not been that loud in many, many year.
That sequence Sam had was amazing!!! That final steal in that sequence out of the half court defense I had to watch a couple times. If we can get 80% of that passion out of this years guards, we are gonna be golden.

Would love to see Jersey playing point defense. Remember when Nicki Anoski spelling was great doing that for Pat . Maybe Kim saw this and stole it from Pat 🤔 should have asked knoxlikeus 🤔

Loved Nikki at the top of the defense. Most active and hands and feet ever. For her size Nikki was a terrific defender with quick feet.

WER?

As much as CKC has impressed me with her recruiting skillz and ability to implement her various unconventional, forward thinking philosophies, i just can’t honestly put her at the top of that list.

Cute as a bug list? Absolutely.

Maybe "cute as a bug" was the main rating criterion. It is easy to put up a list of names without providing any ranking criteria. Such a list becomes a Rorschach test for bored fans. Anyway, I am doing this one way better.

Here is the official MTV ranking of the top 5 all-time basketball coaches (men and women/pro and college). Drum Roll please::

1. Kim Caldwell
2. John Wooden
3. Pat Summitt
4. Phil Jackson
5. Chauncey Billups

[Whoa, the FanDuel odds were a 100,000 to 1 that Chauncey would make my list!!!! I am rich, rich, rich!!!! WHOOOHOOOO! Oh excuse me, the FBI is knocking on my front door]

I'm going to be the bigger man and not respond anymore of this subject
Hey "Bigger man," it has been over 24 hours. Take down all your posts where you falsely accused me of attacking a LV player and also the one where you edited my comment in a desperate attempt to make yourself look better during this insane ego-maniacal dispute you started.

Leaving those posts up are the actions of a liar and a coward.

It’s ok, leave them there. We all know you didn’t disparage Alyssa and anyone with half a brain reading that can surmise as much.

This is a message board, it’s a place specifically for fans to communicate and speculate. Nothing wrong with speculating on her role.

Here is another interesting read about Civil by Cora Hall. The more I read about Civil, the more I am excited to see her play as a LV.

My account no longer tells me which articles are for "subscribers only", so her are a few points mentioned in case it is under a paywall.
--She is extremely competitive to the point of being a constant "trash talker" on the court, not backing down to anyone. Her teammates have come to like this about her. Fortunately, she realizes that she has to tone it down in games (and I hope she has the discipline to do so).
--That she was a top priority to Gabe, who talked her up to Kim who then only needed to see her play once to realize how much she would fit our system.
--She was a relative late bloomer in high school, which caused her to be undervalued by some of the recruiting services.
--Article also consistent with other reports that she gives it all while on the court.
(Two more days to see her play as a LV - Yahoo!)

Do you think there will be enough elite talent available to allow many teams to do that? Not disagreeing with your statement.
I don't think we'll see anyone going full-game with Kim's strategy because that obviously means lots of regular mass substitutions and there are many good reasons coaches prefer not to do that. And, sure, just about every team will fire up their full-court press throughout games, but that's not what I'm talking about. I guess I wouldn't be surprised to see an opposing coach try matching Kim's sub patterns for a quarter sometime.

Everything she says is what we need to do better offensive efficiency and better half court defense. Were even 10 percent better in these areas a lot of last seasons losses would've been wins.

We got Roger Hoover and Niya Butts to call the game tonight.

I'll have to catch their call on the replay, but I'm looking forward to hearing what Niya has to say. I was impressed by her insights last season, and since we all anticipate a major blowout, there'll be air-space to fill -- so hopefully Niya will have some good stuff to share.

FYI there is a game thread for the game today but it was made my coach jumper so if you have him ignored you’ll have to unblock him to see the thread.

Just letting people know because I know last season a lot of people missed the game threads or made duplicates not knowing there was one.

ESPN star Holly Rowe reveals why she dumped 'hot boyfriend' bodybuilder

The longtime ESPN employee shed some light on her personal life during an appearance at the Little Rock Touchdown Club in Arkansas. She recalled dating a bodybuilder who was a Mr. Switzerland champion and revealed why the relationship didn’t pan out.

"I had a really hot boyfriend, and he was Mr. Switzerland, bodybuilder," she said. "We dated for four years. And when I say smoking hot … And the reason we broke up was we were at the ESPYs and Pat Summitt had just gotten this award, the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, because she had just been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. And I’m in the audience, and I’m just bawling in the audience, and he asked me, ‘What’s wrong with you? She’s just a coach.’

"And so, we broke up," Rowe continued. "So I just need you to understand I gave up Mr. Switzerland because of Pat Summitt. This is a true story."
