Tennessee Lady Vol News

you can disagree. my OPINION still stands in my eyes. whitehorn is a proven double digit scorer in the SEC, the others are not. with whitehorn, we’re a much better team. still a good team if she’s no longer apart of the team, but not as good. hopefully it can get sorted and whitehorn grows and learns. one of my faves
"next man up"
Somebody's ready,,,the coach's job is to find that "next man up"

we have five who can play PG,,,maybe more
roberson, mya, mia, Boyd, Civil and Coop can handle the ball as good as a PG

Definitely down to 13 players as Ruby has to be gone. I hope she avoids jail, but she had a large amount. Team needs to move on from her she is a problem that just keeps giving. No way to go forward with her as part of the team wish her the best. I know it is painful for Coach Kim and the team as they all looked up to her as a big leader this season. Sad ending.

If violating the terms of her diversion means she now has to face trial on her felony case, I don’t think UT can justify letting her stay on the team. That’s a serious distraction.

Yep. The court may take steps that will take the decision on Ruby out of Kim's or the University's hands.

Simple possession of marijuana arrests

In Tennessee, simple possession of marijuana is a misdemeanor, and the penalties can be severe. For a first offense, the penalties include up to 11 months and 29 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,500, and potential suspension of the driver's license. Subsequent offenses carry harsher penalties, including mandatory minimum jail time, higher fines, and longer license suspensions. Casual exchanges of marijuana with another person without an intent to profit are also considered misdemeanors.

The legal treatment of THC varies depending on its form and concentration. Delta-9 THC is treated identically to marijuana possession, while Delta-8 and Delta-10 THC are treated similarly to Delta-9 THC, especially if they are derived from cannabis or have psychoactive effects. THC concentrates, such as wax, oil, or edibles, can lead to more severe charges.

The impact of simple possession of marijuana on criminal history calculations under the federal sentencing guidelines is significant. Federal offenders sentenced for simple possession of marijuana in the last five fiscal years have been declining, with the District of Arizona accounting for nearly 80% of all federal marijuana possession sentencings since 2014.

Jail time is possible as Tennessee has harsh penalties for Marijuana but they love their licker all the whisky, tequila, vodka that you want just don't be drunk in the car. You can tote it all over town. I'm really sad for her, but her decisions seem to expand an attitude of not caring. A terrible distraction hope we can move on quickly.

Don't think they will give her jail time, but the damage is done. She is out at Tennessee I am sure someone will give her a chance to play that last season somewhere else.
Agreed, someone might give her a chance? But it probably wont be at a power 4 school, maybe a smaller school. Shame, liked her ability. Guess the bright spot from a basketball standpoint is this is the year the LVs can overcome a loss of a player of her caliber!? Don't think they could have last year

Or a school in a state where marijuana is legal will look at it as a non factor and not a crime.

In TN, it will be expensive but you won’t get jail time for simple possession if you have no criminal history and driving isn’t involved. Unfortunately for Ruby, she has both.

Dont think she’ll do time, but she’s in a costly legal mess. Basketball is far from her biggest problem.

Again, it’s not the simple possession thats the problem. It’s the lack of either caring or judgement given the situation she was already in. Every school, and the WNBA will look at that.

Best case scenario is probably sit out this year and get right emotionally and legally then transfer, probably to a smaller school and one with a tightly controlled environment.

Wonder if lawyers might go pro bono to gain fan favor. Seems like a possibility to let that SLIP OUT.

Bet Coach will want the rest of the story before taking action. Two strikes might be all she gets unless there are extenuating circumstances like her first run in after MORE of the facts got out.

now,,,imagine reading this in the body of a teammate or parent of a teammate (or future recruit) that doesn't believe in "strikes"

One of which, I believe is committing tomorrow
