Chris Burke has zero coaching experience.Really want and hope the decision is Elander. Seems like an easy choice. Assuming he isn’t going to SF with Vitello. Former player endorsements speak volumes. Danny White doesn’t know baseball. Former players do. Trust them.
If DW decides to go outside the family, then I think Chris Burke needs to get some attention. Not because he’s a former Vol (Todd Helton is, too…and that would be a disaster, no offense to Helton…it just seems like this is nowhere close to “his thing”). Burke knows the game, knows people, and has some of the personality traits/charisma that Vitello has. Burke has had interest in the job twice before, and said he’d only have interest this time if the current group (Elander, Anderson) doesn’t get the opportunity.
Again, I hope DW goes with Elander.
I can be corrected here, but I would think in today's world of never hurting feelings, being a public university they may HAVE TO conduct a nationwide search or risk being sued for not being an equal opportunity employer. My take if he was going to hire Elander he wouldn't be doing a Nationwide search. There would be no need just give him the job no need for an interview we know what he has done. I expect he will tick off the intense baseball fans even more when he hires someone outside the Vitello people. I agree Elander should get the job just don't see it happening cause why spend money on searches and interviews. Danny had to mention him, but will be surprised if he gets the job.
Would you like to put some money on that? Event last night and our former coach was present. Did nothing but confirm the tensions.DW will do a " Nationwide search" then hand the keys to JE.
White will sit and watch for two seasons while he does a real search.
If Josh stumbles you can bet Danny boy will have his guy ready to go.
The more I read the more sense this makes. Initially, I was hesitant, but I think Danny White recognizes the narrative floating out there almost forcing him to make the people’s choice. Josh Elander it is.Your head coach of the Tennessee Baseball Volunteers…..Josh Elander. Has to happen, makes the most sense and will keep a majority of the class together.
Care to expand upon this?Would you like to put some money on that? Event last night and our former coach was present. Did nothing but confirm the tensions.
I only see Elander getting it if all of Danny’s options refuse. Similar to the Heupel hiring. But hey, we owe Kim an apology, WTF???
Danny has some very valuable qualities. Personal relationships, empathy and humility aren’t any of them. Your Athletic Department will be a machine, but at what cost. Read between the lines of the presser and you can hear exactly what makes him tick.
WOW, sure seems to discredit all the negativity about DW all the way to the top. Will clear up the why’s in his arrival pressers out west I bet.![]()
What Tony Vitello told Volquest on his move from Tennessee to Giants
Former Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello accepted the job of managing the San Francisco Giants Wednesday.www.wvlt.tv
Tony isn’t going to say anything publicly to hurt UT or Danny White. It’s very hard to understand, but you have two very different people who are focused on success, but are completely different in how that manifests or what the ultimately means. I mean, he’ll, read Tony’s letter. He loves the damn place. At the end of the day Tony isn’t leaving because of DW. But there’s zero doubt in my mind that he was holding the door open when these flirtations began. Not overtly, but passively. DW has been wanting the opportunity to put his mark on UT baseball since he arrived. I heard this less than a year after he arrived.Care to expand upon this?
I hear you, but it would have been easy to usher TV out the door by NOT making him the highest paid coach and NOT embarking on the LNS massive upgrade.Tony isn’t going to say anything publicly to hurt UT or Danny White. In Danny’s defense, he made him the highest paid, built him a new stadium and got the most NIL. All true. But Tony wasn’t going to ever conform to the type of behavior that Danny expects in a coach. The things that made us love Tony were an irritant to Danny. And the corporate approach of DW grated on Tony.
This is why I don’t think Tony believes E will be a serious consideration for the job. The things that rubbed on Tony likely won’t be an issue for any other candidate, except E, because he experienced them. There’s not going to be anyone in the candidate pool remotely like Tony. I’ve sat 10 feet from Tony for 5 years for roughy 100+ games. It’s really interesting to see the things that bother him. Until you understand him this way, it will never make sense.
I expect all the old staff to be purged, unless the next coach decides to try and keep some.
This, 100%Tennessee is currently 1 of the top 5 college jobs in the country. Did Texas or LSU just hire internal to satisfy players and recruits. No they went for proven winners and if the players and recruits want to leave, they feel secure that the hire had shown they could attract top talent.
I appreciate Elander as much as the next fan, but there are proven HCs out there that are chomping to have what Tenn offers. Do you really want a program only 18 months removed from a NC, hire an unproven assistant. This is not the same Tenn that hired Tony just a few ago. You gotta look at all your options.
