Serious question about DW

It's actually closer to irrelevant.

The UTAD is judged in regards to FOOTBALL, basketball, and a little bit on women's hoops. That doesn't please this forum, but it's the plain and simple truth.
True but baseball was actually on the rise and part of that was the interest generated by coaches like TV.

We may end up having to drop the "everything" school motto.

There’s got to be more than just “the opportunity of a lifetime“ to be an MLB manager. His contract with UT was through June 2029 with potential bonuses. His salary with the Giants is a significant paycut when considering taxes.

I think/thought his salary was 3 million per year. It’s possibly not a paycut at all. The word “significant” is a bit misleading. It’s a few hundred thousand cut at worst and at best it’s a few hundred thousand raise. Yes that’s a lot of money but “significant” should mean more than 10% at most. (I know cost of living yada yada)

The significance of baseball is much closer to softball and volleyball than it is to football or basketball. I have really enjoyed watching the baseball program rise to the top under TV, but that's just reality.

3 million in Tennessee goes further than 3 million in California. If one is money smart then yes, probably limited impact - but you are talking a good half million less.

I love Tennessee but there’s a reason the cost of living is higher in California. Politics aside, it’s a desirable place to live. I’m sure it’s a dump depending on who you ask but wealthy people tend to go there.

That is probably because according to some, DW's success is based only on Football and Basketball. So he may not care if the baseball team hits rock bottom.
It is, because those sports pay the bills while you whiners haven’t made the baseball program profitable! Until it is you don’t have much to talk about while the other 2 you mentioned pay for it. Next time call up and tell him you will give a couple of mil and he can maybe stack that on top of the 3 million already being made by TV! God I wished our UT fans weren’t so stupid, maybe I need to stay off here so you all don’t prove how dumb some of our fans or proven today a lot of our fans are.

They have been losing population in droves, a heck of a lot of those moving to Nashville. So it might not be all that desirable or it wouldn’t be losing population left and right.

Really wealthy people tend to have homes in multiple states. They can avoid some of the taxes by declaring another place as their primary residence.

The thing is that our 2 best coaches, Tony V and Rick Barnes are not his guys. Maybe Kim Caldwell can get us a championship, I doubt Heupel will

Put yourself in that position without the bias. You’ve been in a place for 8 years. You won a natty, you’ve proven everyone wrong, you’ve done a ton. An MLB team comes calling in an unprecedented move. You have an opportunity of a lifetime. You’re going.

Danny White failed to keep our best ever hope in baseball while opening a stadium needing to be full every game. What will fill seats NOW?
What if Danny White couldn’t do a darn thing about it? What a lot of you seem to fail to understand is DW couldn’t hold a gun to his head and tell him you’re staying or else. TV made a decision, he took the opportunity that was offered.

If Tennessee wins championships, fantastic. As a fan, I will be happy.

If Tennessee tanks across the board, fantastic, DW will get canned.

Either way, I win.

That is what I like about being old, it gives one perspective.

Back on topic - the original question was why do you believe DW is the best AD ever? Surely it is not just the two hires?
I think it’s because he is the athletic director during a period of unprecedented success across all sports.

The Tall Guy did a great job with Tennessee football and improving our facilities, The other sports, not as much. I swear he didn’t care about men’s BB.

I don’t think you can give him credit for Summit or any part of the women’s BB program.

We’ll see where football ends up. That will determine if he is very good or great.
