Serious question about DW

This is not a pile on post about DW. This is a serious question. Why do so many people feel like he is the best AD we have ever had? I’m not saying he is or isn’t just wondering why so many feel this way.
Here are the candidates (since 1963)
- DW
- Phil Fulmer
- John Currie
- Dave Hart
- Mike Hamilton
- Doug Dickey
- Bob Woodruff

It’s either DW or Dickey. And considering Pat worked for Joan Cronan most of her career, I’m not sure it’s really much of a competition.

I don't really know if he is the best we have had but..... where we were vs where we are now and the health of all sports is a far cry from when he took over. Results say he is doing his job. Since this is in the Baseball forum, TV is a phenomenal coach but I do not buy the whole smear DW campaign. Replacing TV will be extremely hard, however he made the decision to leave. People talk about WBB getting more. The fact is BB as a whole will always get more. Some schools may do allotment different etc, but how many of them are actually successful in every major sport ? TV made 3m/year got the stadium upgrades we needed plus his staff was well compensated. Look at recruiting, the funding was there. TV made a decision. I support him and wish him well. It sucks but I can't be mad at someone chasing their dream.

There’s got to be more than just “the opportunity of a lifetime“ to be an MLB manager. His contract with UT was through June 2029 with potential bonuses. His salary with the Giants is a significant paycut when considering taxes.

He made a great hire in football and women's basketball. Also we made the post season in every single sport last year.

I think the hire he is about to make and how that hire does will dictate how he is ultimately looked at.

He has to replace a NC coach who was also a great motivator for all other sports and the program, more so than DW has ever been.

Maybe he doesn't understand California taxes.

It's actually closer to irrelevant.

The UTAD is judged in regards to FOOTBALL, basketball, and a little bit on women's hoops. That doesn't please this forum, but it's the plain and simple truth.

Taxes probably don’t bother Tony V like they bother you and me.
Unless of course you’re a multimillionaire, and if that’s the case then my bad, carry on.

A lot of things one must buy is significantly higher in California. My niece lived out there for a couple of years - when gas was $3 here it was $6 there. Everything costs more.

Yep, club of 2, for sure, w/ Woodruff @ 3.

I understand that, but I’d like to try to live there as a multimillionaire.
😎
I’d much rather live in Tennessee as a multimillionaire which TV was doing and guaranteed to do through June ‘29.

3 million in Tennessee goes further than 3 million in California. If one is money smart then yes, probably limited impact - but you are talking a good half million less.

That’s not a world I live in. He’s a single dude with a net worth of…something tells me he’ll be okay and if he wins a World Series…
