Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

I knew you were responsible for this the whole time. Knew it. @TN-POSSUM @Glitch Attaaaaaack!
I don't know this place...Where am I? Who is this @Hunerwadel and what evil have they done to bring me to this place? Why have you used your evil voodoo powers to hurt my beloved Vols? @TN-POSSUM will meme and gif you into oblivion...I have to get back to work.

That is 100% true
I cannot conceive of a scenario where a competent admissions office would handle such a request in a way that allows it to become a public issue. I therefore assume that Donde is in the process of disposing of whatever genius academic/bureaucrat handled that in a manner that should have been inconceivable.

It is amazing how many complete morons are employed with institutions that are supposedly dedicated to "higher education."

This is what Danny White doesnt seem to understand if he truly has gone all in on Women's BBall over Baseball

I planned some of my vacation for next year around TN Baseball games so I could drive up from Florida to watch a weekend series (LSU) and the midweek series. I've done this the last couple years.

I HAVE NEVER AND PROBABLY WILL NEVER DRIVE UP FOR A LV GAME. I watch and support them when they are on television but no desire at all to drive 8 hours or more to watch them.

my scenario is more than likely close to the same for 90-95% of VOL fans. Baseball trip - yes
LVs BBall trip - NO

By all accounts White F’d that up. I just don’t think the fan base wants to hear another UTAD self imploded story. It can’t be true. Oh, the Giants just appeared and swept in and took our Coach. What were we to do.

These things don’t happen that way. A coach has to be open to listening, and more than listening for these things to take shape. This is every bit of the failure of Danny to understand how and what he has with Tony. We seem to have a good number of fans who can’t figure that out either. Nick Saban didn’t have to deal with such BS, and Tony is every bit that guy for UT. Like Saban, Tony could care less about Danny’s corporate world. Tony regularly appears on a local call in show that routinely roasts White. You don’t think that’s a problem, for an administrator that wants all public appearances and interviews filtered through their machine? Ha, guess again.

Tony isn’t just a coach, he’s a friggin rock star, and he’s one that will drink a beer with the lowest level fan, and turn around and jump on a private jet to go to an MMA fight with billionaires. Zero pretentiousness, but the ability to show up at celebrity events and blend right in.

Danny White couldn’t even get a football coach hired without taking his previous guy. Danny’s gone all in on Kim Caldwell, and yes, to the detriment of baseball. He’s over played his hand. Vol fans have gotten a taste of dominance (not success) in baseball, and they like it. He’s going to look like a fool with a brand new baseball stadium and donors dropping like flies.

Do you want to know what a down year looks like for baseball? Last year. That’s it. That’s the floor. These friggin goobers on this page don’t have a damn clue what’s going on.
Another thing I noticed too about our new re do of baseball stadium is the new suite seats have knocked out the average vol baseball fan seat. White Dan is only worried about the $$$. As an AD you worry about all sports and if he is supporting Lady Vol basketball due to Kimmy being his hire that is pretty much just dumb. I get you may not like someone Dan and Vitello is Vitello but he has turned this baseball program around and if we lose Tony to the alleged reasons our baseball program will slide down tremendously. I hope this works out for Vitello to stay but he needs the resources to compete vs the arky and LsU in SEC,

He hasn’t gone “all in.” What’s been stated is that Adidas wanted more of an emphasis on it probably because of Candace Parker. Additionally, I’m sure we are giving more of our House money to LV basketball than other schools are. We have more historically successful programs than other schools do. But he isn’t going “all in,” considering we are currently spending $100 million on stadium renovations.

In their defense, they likely had zero idea she was related to CTV. The timing was poor but it’s something that’s definitely fixable.

How many Tennessee baseball fans do we actually have? I get TV has a major cult of personality but the amount of people just ready to completely jump ship on the whole program is pretty wild. And I completely understand that POV - it’s just wild to me the amount of people ready to give up on baseball
Just my .02 but Vols have been put through the wringer over the past 15-20 years. Add in price increases in combination with cost of living increases, added time commitment, SEC brass trying to control how each season plays out/officiating debacles, age of NIL and annual coaching circus - you get sort of a recipe for disaster when it comes to buy in of fans.

I've avoided this discussion because it has all the trappings of months of yousaidism. I'll share a couple of things. TV, DW others were still working on this last night at 11pm. There were some (meaningful) personality conflicts and misaligned priorities in the program. We were too cocky and didn't think he'd really leave, or that a big MLB program would take him. We were wrong. In fairness, TV is obviously a big ego too. He has some big asks of the program not related to his salary etc., and he expressed those to donors away from the AD. There is indeed real friction. They've been working it through for days. I shared this Summer that the highest risk of losing TV was to MLB not other college programs. I cited the Cardinals and other programs interviewing him, and was mauled for being unrealistic and told he'd never go to the pros. We need to admit that he is seen as a master program manager, and identifier of coaching and player talent. He is not like other college coaches. He's something much more substantial and he's worth the risk of betting on an unknown in the MLB. If something is done this morning, it happened after midnight. As of 11pm EDT, his agents, our side etc were trying to solve it. Bay Area Bob does not have a scoop. He's guessing. Right now the Giants think they'll get him and DW and AD believe we'll keep him. It probably will not go past 5 today. I am much more optimistic than I was on Saturday when most thought it was a done deal. Last night, we were still in it and fighting hard.

Thanks for sharing.

Danny has tremendous risk (can he not see it? wth) right now with his hires, I guess that award got to his head.

Its not inconceivable that football could lose to OU, Vandy, and Florida to finish 7-5.

While Kim had a great first year, that system is still unproven as a long term success in major womens basketball.

Theres a lot of TBD's despite recent success.

This is truth! All Donde has to do is initial her application and it's done. How do I know this? I personally had it done for several large donors back in the day by Mr. Cheek. Very fixable, and comes with very sincere apologies.

I know this, if he let's TV walk, I won't be attending any games this year at all. I won't waste my hard earned money until the new hire, whoever it may be, establishes he can win and be competitive like Tony had the team being.

I also forgot to mention I paid for the ESPN package just to be able to watch every single game the past 5 years or so. Unless I was working, I never missed a game, weekend or midweek. I would even have the game on my phone playing while watching my son play his games and keeping him updated lol.

I kept up with TN Baseball during the Delmonico, Raleigh 🤮, and Serrano eras. RD was fun, Raleigh not so much and Dave was disappointing bc I had huge hopes when he was hired, but glad he is doing great at Johnson University, except when they play Tennessee Wesleyan.

I "kept up" i.e. looked at box scores and read articles.

Since TV, I've actively watched as many games as possible and look forward to watching them. I get more excited for baseball season than football bc I know we have a Legitimate shot at a NC with TV at the helm.

Interesting angle…..none of this would be happening if TV did not have some interest in considering MLB. I don‘t think anyone is ”letting TV walk”. There is interest on TV’s side, offers have been made now it is his decision. It is a business decision and , in my opinion, no ones ”fault”.

GBO!!

Agree 100%. I'm on the verge of chucking all organized sports. 20 years of going to Hoover are on the brink for me. :(
