Drops per attempt

No doubt our Receivers are very talented, but there has been TOO many drops this year. I believe I heard the broadcasters say we were leading the nation in drops, if not we are way up there . Too many for sure.
Yep. I remember the comment. Was definitely top 5 in drops.

PFF is quite lenient on what constitutes a drop. It has to be on-target and uncontested. We, as fans, feel like if it hits 2 hands it should be caught. That's not wrong, but it's not how they track it.

Maybe think of PFF drops as blatant drops.
If the defenfender doesn't have a hand or amr i front of hte reciever, it ain'y contested in my book.

But, that's a suck a** rule. Cause a blatant drop still counts as incomplete on QB stats and he did his job putting it in the right place. Why does a QB get penalized an incomplete pass when a DB breaks it up, dislodges it, or otherwise contributes to being dropped, or a DL disrupts throw accuracy. No Mike Matthews targets should count against JA. If incomplete is incomplete for QB stats, should be same for drops.

He had a few clutch catches this game but if you haven’t seen the drop he had you need to watch. Perfect ball that hit him right in the hands.
Probably looked like the really well placed ball in Matthews hands he dropped. They all do that occasionaly though. As a team we are just really good at making sure we're the 2nd worst.

Thanks for posting this info but theres no way thats correct. Matthews has 4 drops...when he had 2 blatant drops on the same drive Saturday and killed it. Maybe close to correct if Saturday stats arent included, but I have my doubts about that too. Staleys game vs MSU alone he dropped 3 or 4 balls. Even Saturday in his best game by far, Staley had 10 catches on 16 targets. I think the problem lies in the fact that defining what a "drop" actually entails is subjective. I think if a WR or TE gets both hands on a ball and doesnt catch it...then its a drop unless they had to dive for it, or the throw was clearly poor. Like way behind them etc. Other people may see a drop as something else...like the 2 Matthews had that killed our drive where the ball hit him in the chest after flying between his 2 hands. Those are a drop in anyones book. The TV guys said we were 135th out of 136 FBS teams in drops and I believe them. Whats amazing is that we STILL had the #1 scoring offense and Joey averaged 300yds per game for the first 6 games despite all those drops.
Been really good at running it in.

This has been a problem for three years now though has it not been? I don't recall Hendons year as well as Joe's and Nicos. I feel as if I've been complaining about it for 3 years now.

Its a valid complaint. Pretty sure we lead the SEC in drops last year too. Whats crazy is Brazzell dropped plenty of balls last year, almost as many as Nimrod. This year he has been really good even making tough catches. Arkansas doubled him the whole game so he only had 1 catch IIRC, but against Bama he made some clutch catches. We have to get better catching the ball. Our entire WR corps are freshmen from an experience standpoint except #17 though. They will improve and with the 4WRs we have coming in for 26 we will be loaded. Hope we can keep all or most of them.

That pass wasn’t gonna be a touchdown for Tennessee no matter what, it was a terrible play call and a terrible pass. I don’t care who the receiver was.
Have to disagree. TE was open and in a 1:1 with a DB. That ball wasn’t a thrown correctly it would 100% be a TD (for us). Or, in line with this thread, a drop.

100%. Kitz has 2-3 yards on the DB. That's all you can ask in the end zone. He's open. Not a "unbelievable" call but he's open.
JA missed the throw. That's a fact. I have zero problems with the call. The problem lies in the execution. Many high school QB can make that throw. He missed bad and behind. It happens. Terrible time to happen.

I think Eric Cain said we are one of the worst in the nation for drops.
seems i head one of the talking heads (dont remember who cause i dont know most of their names or listen much) say we are #2 in D1 football with dropped passes. To lazy and lack of interest to look it up but sounds about right

Not coming down on Mike.
But you can see why Kirby Smart was telling him that he was a DB.

Mike dropped the ball a lot in HS too. But he was still making plays on defense and on offense because he got so many chances.

At what point do you reallocate some of that NIL money next year in 2 players, maybe your most expensive, who are underperforming this year,in Mike and Boo.

Not exactly the answer you were looking for but UT has dropped 21 passes going into the Bama game.
I think they had 3-4 drops in the Bama game
