Drops per attempt

Yeah, he's been a disappointment. It's always the squeakiest NIL wheel that produces the least. Unfotunately our injury list at WR prevents seeing who wants to catch the ball. His performance Saturday no doubt took some potetial points off the board on positive drives.

Brazzell has some, but also makes alot of plays. Staley was a breath of fresh air Saturday for the most part. He just keeps getting better.
If MM says anything about $ after this season, let him walk.

Truth. If you're gonna let Nico walk over money vs production, better be winding up Matthews. There's more than one way to handle the NIL era since there are no binding contracts. I'd rather see hte reverse before they even see the money. Show me some desire and results and we'll talk money. These freshmen and sophomores ain't earned none of it. Arch should be refunding some himself. Matthews ain't proven jack. On the other hand, Staley is balling IMO. He's emerging quickly. Thought he had a great say at Bama myself. And Brazzell goes without saying. Matthews single handedly killed more than one drive. Kits had a average game, but I think he's done well overall his time here. There was one TE that came in 4th quarter and had a couple good plays I don't recall seeing in other games. IIRC, I don't recall seeing Kits much at all 4th quarter. Maybe I wnt brain dead. I was kinda under the weather.

Maybe we should be hitting up the portal for DII players. Worked well for Ole Miss. That Simmons injury would have been a disaster w/o Chambliss. And Kiffen was smart enough to pcik up some of Ferris' playbook when they watched the kids tapes. He just wouldn't say what plays they were they adopted. Chambliss effectively ended Simmons' return as the annointed starter.

In his defense, he was never supposed to be an athletic pass catcher.
Maybe but that pass in the Bama game hit him dead square in the hands. It was a perfect ball and not a hard catch. He needs to slow down mentally bc I think he’s planning what he’s going to do with the pass before securing it.

Or he was just too jacked up playing his old team, and didn't channel his emotions. I've felt he's been pretty solid most of his stay here, but due to saturday work and not having streaming for some of the games, I haven't seen everything.

Freshman Brahme was the TE who made plays late. Kitselman is an NFL TE, but he has been playing 60+ snaps per game and hes worn out. He was playing at a very high level for the first 4 games. We need Jack Van D. and Brahme to mature quickly and take more snaps from Kits because he is worn down. The problem is the other guys can't block like Miles and it shows. Unlike WRs, TEs are counted on as an extra lineman on running plays and have to be able to block a DE or move a LB out of the way. The running game cant go outside on sweeps, reverses, QB runs or RPO plays without a TE winning his block. The young guys arent good blockers yet and apparently Ethan Davis is done. He has never been able to play at an SEC level and has now been passed up. Kitselman and Joey are both banged up too...need them healthy for the grind coming up.

Holy Crap is he still around? lol. He never did a thing. At this point he's just getting his free diploma.

I wish they had a stat that said so and so had X amount of targets, and
in this example 7 targets with 3 catches and 4 misses
1 miss-that was 50/50 QB/WR &
1 miss- that was100/QB over thrown or worm burner
2 misses that was +50 on WR (got 2 hands on it) but was a little low/high or off a bit.

I would rather have 7-8 3 to 4 star receivers on the roster than a 5 star. I can't explain why, but we can't get 5 star production out of 5 star talent. Matthews has shown his talent, but he isn't consistent and he drops game changing passes. He's a true freshman. I'll give him some grace, but if he's panhandling for more money, let him walk. Maybe he can play for UCLA.

All 26 drops this season...
View attachment 783094

Thanks for posting this info but theres no way thats correct. Matthews has 4 drops...when he had 2 blatant drops on the same drive Saturday and killed it. Maybe close to correct if Saturday stats arent included, but I have my doubts about that too. Staleys game vs MSU alone he dropped 3 or 4 balls. Even Saturday in his best game by far, Staley had 10 catches on 16 targets. I think the problem lies in the fact that defining what a "drop" actually entails is subjective. I think if a WR or TE gets both hands on a ball and doesnt catch it...then its a drop unless they had to dive for it, or the throw was clearly poor. Like way behind them etc. Other people may see a drop as something else...like the 2 Matthews had that killed our drive where the ball hit him in the chest after flying between his 2 hands. Those are a drop in anyones book. The TV guys said we were 135th out of 136 FBS teams in drops and I believe them. Whats amazing is that we STILL had the #1 scoring offense and Joey averaged 300yds per game for the first 6 games despite all those drops.

And still the best TE we've had in a minute. He has made some great plays too. And likely more than not.
He had a few clutch catches this game but if you haven’t seen the drop he had you need to watch. Perfect ball that hit him right in the hands.

PFF is quite lenient on what constitutes a drop. It has to be on-target and uncontested. We, as fans, feel like if it hits 2 hands it should be caught. That's not wrong, but it's not how they track it.

Maybe think of PFF drops as blatant drops.

No doubt our Receivers are very talented, but there has been TOO many drops this year. I believe I heard the broadcasters say we were leading the nation in drops, if not we are way up there . Too many for sure.

Can’t stay healthy. God doesn’t give everyone a body that can play football.
He sure didn't me. 5'9, 145 Sr year. My body was in no man's land for football since I could neither punt nor kick. And being rather fast for a wb didn't matter. Shoulda seen me trying to tackle our own RB's on a sweep from the CB position. Effort had nothing to do with the results.

In my day before soccer style kicking, we had those straps that went around the back of hte ankle with the steel toe cap to hold that toe up to get height on the straight on kick. Those tactics and gear seem rather odd now. And not ancient either unless your less than 30 and don't know when the early 80's were.
