I agree. I am just simply saying at this point there needs to be a decision made.Being a Vol doesn't imply that one doesn't look to have success at the next level.
The concern I have is that he goes to MLB, does not have success then ends up at an SEC rival when he resurfaces at the college level because we have moved on.
Not so sure. If there is a tense relationship currently between TV and DW, taking the SF job will make the relationship worse. If TV leaves, I do not expect him to coach here again. Could be wrong, but I think DW will want to stay with whoever he hires....until he decides to move on from the new coach.Maybe we’ll be so bad without him that we’ll drop everything to hire him back when the giants fire him. Non zero chance that happens
I, for one, don't ever wish for the program to be so bad that we have to hire a coach that left us for another opportunityMaybe we’ll be so bad without him that we’ll drop everything to hire him back when the giants fire him. Non zero chance that happens
Come on! The 'kids' aren't going anywhere until after this semester anyways. A percentage of them are not going to make the team anyway and would have to find a new home at the end of the semester regardless. The negotiation, whether you like it or not, is not a weekend trip to SF. TV has a lot to consider. Would the staff go with him for one or does he start from scratch with a staff with MLB experience? Danny White was in Tuscaloosa when this broke and I'm sure he wants to counter. The 'kids' are in school and maybe making phone calls, but there is no rush for them to drop out of classes at UT and take incompletes. They should be here until the end of the semester.I agree. You've got 18-22 year old kids wondering who their HC is going to be and their season starts in 4 months
His place of residence doesn't have to change. Bruce Bochy lives in middle TN. So does John McNamara. Not sure TV could escape the Cali income tax though.Last time I was out there it was only 3 miles to reach 30-45 minutes. Have no clue how a CALI lifestyle would fit him.
Anybody got a clue what total cost of living percentage differential including taxes would be?
I think you know deep down that the fact that he didn't squash it 2 weeks ago, and especially that he hasn't squashed it this weekend tells you he is, or at least was leaning towards taking it and that it wasn't just SF interest.I’m a bit concerned that he hasn’t turned down the job yet. He’s had 48 hours since the news broke. I know typically the longer it goes on you’d think the better it is for us, but part of me just feels like he accepted and the MLB is keeping the announcement on lockdown till the ALCS is over. Hope that’s not the case.

Now, the fact that he hasn't yet accepted it could be taken any number of ways (negotiations, second thoughts, etc), but in hindsight, this was never just nothing.
MLB does not like teams making announcements on the same day as a playoff game. If he is going, tomorrow will be the announcement day.I dismissed it originally because the idea seemed outlandish, but yes to the bold face part it was clear when he was quoted as telling the news and team “Nothing is done” and not that it wasn’t true made it clear at that point he was very serious about going. It was a short and carefully worded statement that makes it seem less like he’s deciding if he wants to go or not and more on what the details of the agreement looks like.
$5 million would be insane for a first time MLB manager with no major league experience. In 2024, there were 6 managers making less than $1 Million. 15 Made $1.75 Million or less. Dave Roberts of the Dodgers made $3.75 million. It is just not realistic that Vitello would be offered $5 Million that some folks talk about
SF is not hiring him. He would have left already if he was leaving. MLB season in 2027 won’t happen with the lockout. No one on Giants board talking about it or expect it.MLB does not like teams making announcements on the same day as a playoff game. If he is going, tomorrow will be the announcement day.
Coaches are not part of the MLB union, they are employed by the team and he would still get paid if a lockout occurs.SF is not hiring him. He would have left already if he was leaving. MLB season in 2027 won’t happen with the lockout. No one on Giants board talking about it or expect it.
Have you run this theory through ai?Coaches are not part of the MLB union, they are employed by the team and he would still get paid if a lockout occurs.
This is MLB......the pinnacle of the sport. Even if he take a pay cut the potential pay long-term is greater.
NIL and transfers have turned college sports into a cluster......he would be crazy not to take the job if offered!!!!!!!
