¿¿Tony Vitello to SF Giants?? (Merged )

Ben McKee just a few mintues ago:

"As we come to the end of the weekend, a decision has not been made from my understanding. I do think we could hear something within the next 24 hours, but a decision was also supposed to be made by the end of Friday night.

We’ll see what happens, but I believe the fact a decision has not been made is a positive sign considering The Athletic’s report insinuated that it was basically a done deal."

I'm curious if Tony hasn't made his decision yet, or if there's a roadblock with contract negotiations.

I don’t know anything. I have suspicions like everyone else that I’m almost positive my son doesn’t know anything. I love you too baseball, but I also have a great appreciation for Tony Vitello because he has been nothing but great to my son and our family.
Idk how much Kirby still talks to people in Blacksburg but I’m a coach for Gaffney and I’ve been asking around if he’s told them anything. Desperate times lol

Ego guys, ego. Tony is single so no biggie for him to try his hand at pro ball. The worst thing to happen to him is he gets fired and there are a dozen D1 schools waiting to hire him. Money isn’t the factor. After San Fran costs and Cali taxes, it won’t be that different.

Tony has basically thrived in the portal era and also only really ever known the portal era since he was only a coach at TN for a handful of years before NIL/portal. And I’m supposed to believe he’s leaving college athletics because he hates what the game has become? I don’t buy it.
Seems pretty simple. No more recruiting. No more constant NIL "re-negotiations". No whiny parents. No fundraising and construction projects. Just managing ball players at the pinnacle of the sport. And doing it for more money and first class accommodations.

Good article about TV on the Basilio blog today. Sounds logical that TV would consider the Giants job seriously.
The interesting thing is the relationship between TV and DW
Just read it at your recommendation, thanks for directing us to it. The info regarding DW is surprising. I always took him as a “win at all cost” type of AD, so it’s interesting seeing him butt heads with TV. But if the coach isn’t following the script, I guess I can see why you’d have issues. However, I’m choosing to believe that DW isn’t going to just let Tony walk without a fight. Basilio can sometimes exasperate things for the clicks, but there’s definitely some smoke there.

Press conference tomorrow saying Tony is gone. The hold up was the 3 million dollars to buy out of his contract. That’s now settled.
Tony also has a big issue with NIL and player parents.Sound familiar?
Saban said the same thing and let’s face it college sports pay for play will end up like NASCAR. Unwatchable. Players one and done and gone to another team is stupid.

Bad comparison. NASCAR was unwatchable way before NIL

So this might be a dumb question but we know that baseball doesn’t turn a profit at UT. With all the added seats being nearly completed and our ticket prices being raised does the baseball team then turn a profit? Does a coach have more leverage for more NIL if the sport is turning a profit?

Danny is a money guy but also an institutional guy (NCAA, etc). Lets be hypothetical a second. Lets say Tony gets some of his Rev-Share (important to note difference in Rev-Share and NIL) money redirected to LV Basketball and also has his fall roster numbers capped. So Tony is mad.

Tony is salty and they get cross about it, but he says "whatever... I'll just make that money up with NIL and my own sources and keep rolling." Danny and his people step in and say: "Absolutely not. The fall roster is hard capped at X-players and all your upcoming NIL deals will be expected to be presented to UTAD Compliance as well as Deloitte-Touche and the NCAA.'

That's where Danny's institutional side kicks in.

(I'll spare you my rant about how its because the institutional guardrails/rules keep the money flowing to the admin... that's for another time)

LOL. I just went and read it and the truth always is somewhere in the middle with ol’ TB.

Danny White doesn’t care if Vitello leaves? Why make him the highest paid coach in America last summer and give him an extension? Why not just let him go to A&M?

Once again, if you’ve ever listened to TB, he clearly has an agenda against Danny White and certainly is using this to push his agenda

If Tony is leaving for the MLB because that's his dream and the top of his chosen profession I'm okay with it.
If Tony is looking to leave because there's a riff in the AD department ( rumors at this point) ,that is totally unacceptable. To allow a coach to leave that's taken a program stuck in the mud to a national championship and built one of the strongest names in college baseball then DW can pack his s**t up and head back to UCF
