Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

It blows my mind how absolutely zero Heupel skill players have done anything in the league.

Sampson averages like 2 yards per carry. Tillman had a respectable year as a third receiver but can't stay healthy. Hyatt looks horrible as a pro. Thornton can't get any receptions. Jaylen Wright can't get on the field. Hendon was lost in Detroit and is on a practice squad for a bad carolina team. Milton is a back up. Who am I missing?

I barely care about the NFL but I want to see our Vols do well in teh league. No one does. The negative recruiting has to be deafening.

They may spiral because almost every team left on the schedule can beat them.
What exactly do you mean by "spiral"? How many losses total would that constitute? Because I saw a WHOLE lot of people predicting 8-4 prior to the season and saying they'd be THRILLED with 9-3.

It's so weird how the goal posts move to me. I don't get that. We're playing better than I expected we would be at this point. I try and show gratitude instead of wasting any time worried about what I don't have!

The biggest takeaway from that is how good Heupel does at winning in college without NFL starter caliber players. Those players not doing really well in the NFL is not due to their college coaching so that makes it look pretty impressive what he does with them at UT.

Tillman has been hurt. (looked good up to then)
Sampson is a rookie.
Ditto Donte Thornton.
Hyatt never looked like an NFL receiver to me. I don't understand why so many Vol fans are surprised he hasn't done better.
Jaylen Wright has been injured.
Hendon - see what I said about Hyatt. Same vein.
But you did mention players that Josh Heupel PUT INTO THE LEAGUE.

You'd be surprised how much just that means to a lot of these players. They have immense self-belief or they wouldn't have had that sort of success. "Get me to the league. I'll take care of the rest," is very much an attitude.

A couple of things:

1. Our scheme really is gimmicky, but doesn’t matter cause it works

2. Not Heup’s problem what former players do after collegr

I agree I think he’s gonna get a pay bump bc these other big open jobs are gonna be interested
I saw a Florida fan on a message board photoshop Florida logos onto Heupel's shirt and orange hat. It suddenly struck me how much better I like were we are as a program than I could possibly like where Florida is were I a fan and it suddenly mattered just a little less to me whether or not we win in the Swamp this year. Sacrilege, I know, but we don't usually win down there so it's a salve in advance to getting screwed down there.
