Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Just for the perception of this team and his coaching ability, the Florida game in the swamp has become an absolute must win for Heupel. Win and all is good. Lose and that seat may begin to get warm.
I've said all along that as long as we're on probation, Heupel is safe. Losing to Florida is not going to put him on the hot seat. Might force some staff changes. Probably not, but it might.

Wins we “need” this upcoming weekend:

- TENNESSEE (the bigger the victory the better)
- Oklahoma over Ole Miss (the bigger the victory the better)
- Alabama
- Mizzou/Vandy (want this game to not be close)
- Iowa State over BYU (bigger the victory the better)
- LSU over TAMU (bigger the victory the better)

Even with a loss, anybody wanting him on the hot seat routinely eats paint chips.

So roughly 70% of the fanbase.

I’d be prepared; I would bet his name is going to be thrown around in a few of these searches. He’s not remotely on the hot seat.

I want to be clear I have no way of verifying if this guy is telling the truth but Virtual Vol is a long-timer poster on the GV247 board and just dropped this re: Tony.

"Wifey is knows a guy that is pretty substantial donor to the baseball program and claims to know Tony personally (plenty of pics to prove it). We buy tickets off him sometimes. He’s been claiming since this morning (publicly on Facebook) that Tony has decided to stay."
Wait. I was right?!!!? Holy ****! Milk and Coffee?! IMG_2768.gif

Kentucky fans really want Barnhart to make a move on Mark Stoops but I don't think I would be begging for that right now if I'm a UK fan. There are a lot of jobs that are open and more that will eventually come open. Where would Kentucky rank on that list of open jobs?
Low. And they aren’t committing to the football program. Would make a bad situation worse.

Just staff changes, man. The man hasn't made a staff change since he got here five years ago. It's time for some rework if we lose one or two more.

But 9-3 or 8-4?

Anyone who wants him fired for that deserves the decade of misery, truly. Many of us would have taken that record happily before the season. He turned Aguilar into a legit SEC QB in the span of a few months, and now that's baked in and he doesn't get any credit for that? Please...

Huepel is going lots of places, Lexington, Knoxville, Knoxville, then to Baylor.

We are about to turn the corner, best recruiting class in yeard. DGG...

Y'all are ****ing looney tunes if you think Josh Huepel is anywhere close to being on hot seat. If anything, id be praying that Oklahoma doesnt fire Venables

I think that report that said they were giving a substantial percentage to basketball to spite football was debunked. No report has since emerged that's said exactly how they are divvying up revenue, but I would imagine they'd invest the majority into football because even at UK, football is the money-maker. UK just had to give Athletics 141 million dollars to cover DEFICITS. Would be suicide not to give more money to football.

I think fans of schools that aren't Kentucky basketball need to be very cautious with the reports surrounding that program because there's a whole lot of money riding on that fan base staying engaged. I don't for a second believe they are paying 22 million for their roster but other teams that landed players Kentucky missed on are only spending around 10 million. Doesn't pass the smell test. I know how the media loves to gas that fan base up.

Did you look at the stats in the UK vs Tx game? How in the world did Kentucky lose?

Venables probably does just enough this season to have a cool seat.

@TimBanks, would be a perfect hire for them IMO

I’m gonna pull a Barack Obama and ask you to let me be clear:

Heupel could lose out and I wouldn’t want him fired. Firing him under any circumstance at this juncture would be stupid in the extreme. He has completely pulled this program from the gutter and made us not just respectable but borderline great.

But a loss in the Swamp in these circumstances would be bad.

I see games like that every single week so I stopped asking that question. I just roll with it.

One of those "control the controllables" things.
Yeah but have you ever seen the losing team get 26 first downs and the victor have 8? That is insane. Oh yeah, looks like the line against UK is 9.5.
