Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Agreed, but that's no backdoor. That would be a legitimately massive stretch of huge wins @ UK, top-15 OU, @UF, top-15 Vandy.

Not an easy game there. The only scenario I don't see happening at this point is us getting in with 3 losses. Someone will, but our SOS won't do us that favor.
They really need to factor time as well. It’s been so nice of them to make us play at night every freaking away game…

Recruiting at UF is not easy with them being a dump and Miami being a top team with FSU also making a new hire. . . not to mention USF, UCF, etc. . .
Of course it is what are you talking about. It’s one of the big 3 recruiting hotbeds in the country. They are pulling .500 seasons and still pulling near top 10 classes. That’s about as “easy” as it can possibly get.

17 points is not 1 single play.

Losing by 17 when the stat line looks like you won the game points out that what you do in the key critical moments of a game is the difference in winning and losing.

Why some fans are acting ridiculous is because in both losses coaches and players F’d up in the critical moments.
Let me make this a little simpler for you. The one play was at the one yard line. We should have scored a TD (7 points) but instead we threw a pick six (7 points). That’s a 14 point swing and a one possession game in that instance.

Does that make more sense now?

Doesn’t matter. There will never be massive talent advantages in this conference again. NIL and portal have made this conference more like the nfl than ever. You’d have to be insane as a coach to take a Florida job over an FSU job for example.

Lane Kiffin is gonna win a NC a Florida.

Good thing we don’t play them every year now.

The good news is it likely makes ole miss a mid team in the conference now so when we do play them it should be easier.

MM has shown a big leap?
He barely got to play last year so going from a few snaps to every snap only shows he’s getting more opportunities.
And from what I’ve seen I’d say Staley will be the featured guy.
That’s fair. From that perspective, I think as essentially a first year player he’s been decent. Expect him to take a big jump next year assuming he becomes more consistent.

Yeah Staley is carving out the Hyatt role. But he’s not going to stretch the perimeter like MM could. Doesn’t have the same type of natural athleticism (and before you fight me on that I mean things like length/range/body control/jump ball potential/etc). Could he be more productive statistically, sure. More dependable, sure. But he’s not a guy like brazzell or hopefully MM who could draw a safety over the top due to perimeter jump ball potential. MM still just scratching the surface.

Swamp 247 made a hotboard for coaching and there are 8 guys on there before they even get to Alex Golesh. This is fans' response to the list.

"Worst coaching pool than last time. Ugh. Kiffin the only one to get excited about."

How long will it be until the Florida fan base comes to terms with exactly where they are right now as a program?

They would be insanely lucky to get Golesh.

I know cfp poll is one that matters but we could be all the way up to 13 depending on outcome of games in two weeks.

OU and Ole Miss play
BYU and TT play
Vandy and Missouri play
We play OU.

If OU beats Ole Miss we most likely will be at least 13th by then with 4 more weeks (bye included) left in the season.
I created a thread in football forum about this if you’re brave enough to venture there.

Yup. Talent is the only reason the defense was good last year. Just the cold hard truth.
The one with a walk on at safety and 3*s the best at their positions, McCoy and Moi?

Lmao.

Bring McCoy and Gibson back and this is a different defense. As it is, it held Bama to less than any team this year in Tuscaloosa.

Maybe the offense needs to net more than 11 points smh. Neither side did their job yesterday, but surely we expect much more than that from the offense too.

Wish we would have let him walk last year. Someone calling plays from their PlayStation or Xbox might possibly yield the same results and him lol.
He's a year-removed from producing his best defense and was one of 5 finalists in the country for the Broyles Award. Sound these things out in your head before typing them.

I'm not as big a Banks hater as some, but you keep bringing up the Broyles award like it's a legitimate piece of evidence for how good someone is. Those awards mean as much as preseason polls.

No, I am bringing up the Broyles award to illustrate the reaction that fans would have had at the time about Banks leaving. Most fans were glad we didn't lose him.

I don't think Banks is irreplaceable. But I also don't think if you plug someone else in there the results would look much different at all.

That was all talent and not Banks. Also my last statement is very obviously hyperbole. But after the both the UGA and then OSU game last year I’ve been done defending him. The calls he makes at crucial times just don’t make any sense.

Too many mistakes and just look at the pass attempts. That's a team getting garbage yards trying to come back down multiple possessions. I wonder what the game control stats show? Id expect Bama had it most of the game.
If I remember right, everything was pretty even going into our last drive

I thought they’d drop us to at least 20. Only falling to 17 was a surprise.
We played very competitively, on the road. Well deserved a small drop, but much more would have been wild and too old school (looking at the scoreboard vs the actual performances). It should reflect where we actually rank. Imo we were overranked going into last week. 17 feels appropriate. We can play up to competition, but need to close one of them out (looking at you OU...).

Again all talent and not Banks. There’s DC’s with way less talent that don’t put out defenses like this.
"All talent" with a walk on and multiple 3*s leading their units 😆😅🤣🤣🤣

Not just 2024. Our defenses improved 4 years straight...whine more about that.

Must be AlL tHaT PruItT TaLeNt 😅
