Post sleep observations.
The game was not as bad as the score. We moved the ball with relative ease against their defense. Like every game this year our defense made immediate adjustments out of halftime, and then once the offense figured it out, we never adjusted back. Here are my biggest problems with our team:
Blitz? - We show our cards way too early. Then never adjust out of it after QB audibles. Every game I watch our blitzing defenders look to the sidelines like "Are we still doing this?" Then we do, it gets picked up and we get gashed. If you're going to fake blitz from the middle of the field, can we at least have one LBer pick up the TE? What happened to our delayed blitzes? Boo and McMurray can cause havoc with them, yet we have gotten away from it.
Red Zone Defending - When teams get in our 20, they score TD's almost every time. This should be nearly impossible considering you have less field to defend. But somehow, we do not use the back of the endzone or sideline like another defender. Ultimately, when you are poor with red zone defense, it typically means you do not have the DT's. We don't. We have converted ends playing DT. If I could have two players back from last year, it would be Omar Norman-Lott and Elijah Simmons.
Red Zone Offense - If we cannot pass when inside the 10, we better start running wildcat. For God's sake, can we develop a hard count? We are giving away too many possessions with our predictable snap. Alabama two sacks came on gamble rushes. He would've been offside if we changed our cadence.
DB's - I watch our rivals, and they have quality depth in the secondary. They get coverage sacks. We don't. We either beat the guy in front of us with a clear path to the QB or hope for errant throws. This will not win games against competent QBs.
WR - Why do have zero depth in year 5? Greg was right with one thing last night, our WR's were gassed. The second half drops come from a lack of concentration and that happens when guys are tired.
