Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Freshman against a rb that outweighs him by 40 lbs. yeah it could have been a better form tackle but it wasn’t the worst one on the night. So I guess I agree but hate that Redmond the freshman getting picked on, he’s only playing because two others are out and boo wasn’t expected to be in the lineup this season for most of fall camp.

My perspective, being at the stadium, it was horrible. There were no ref issues. We just were not good. From the first play to the last play, it was bad. Offense wasn’t good. Defense wasn’t good. And heupel was horrible.

I have nothing nice to say about that game.

Crazy how one play can completely change the game. Tennessee had about 10 of them tonight
The missed safety turned 1st down. The intentional grounding safety. The snap while trying to change the play loss of yards and self inflicted 3rd and long. The pick 6. The wr pass loss of 15 turned run gain of 15. The 16 yard pass from the goalline. The 3 and 2 uncovered man with linebackers running backwards. The 3rd down DPI on hood. The 4th down missed tackle on the qb scramble that led to a td.

I’m sure there was more that don’t immediately come to mind.

Refs had a couple awful calls in the first half. Also they spotted the ball short all game.

With that being said, it’s about as fair as I’ve seen it in Tuscaloosa in a while. I expected much worse tbh

Complimentary Football, why don’t we have it?

Defense does not help our offense get ahead. We keep teams in the game. 99 yard drives. Like, even when we’re fresh. We just give up chunk yards left and right, on the ground and through the air.

Completely reliant on turnovers. And yet we never capitalize on them. Our worst offensive drives seem to be right before and after our defense gets us the ball back. I feel like it’s played calling. We disappear for series and suffer from very poor execution with the type of consistency we need to have good execution with.

Why is this a thing? Coaching? Is it philosophical strategy this year? Due to or with consideration of injuries? Is it personnel? Could it be that simple? I can’t bring myself to believe McCoy and Gibson make the difference between last years top ranked d (statistically across the board) and this years near bottom of sec (yards and points).

Has anyone ever done an in-depth study of flags in the sec?

Ratios for each team of whether calls are for or against them? Their home vs away ratios?
The ratio of penalties in their favor being “game changing” (drive extending/possesion impacting, point creating/detracting).

Obviously wouldn’t be a direct correlation to corrupt officiating, as better teams probably benefit more from penalties and commit less penalties, but if any numbers stood out from the crowd (like say bama/georgia getting 5 more penalties per game than others and the nature of them being game outcome impacting), that would be of great interest to many id think.

We dont go after the db’s uga, tex and osu go after. Seems we like to go after projects and developmental guys. Its maddening. I like what ap (austin price) says. Dont care about their ranking, who did you beat them for. We arent beating uga, tex, nd, osu for our defensive backs.
Yea we beat Wisconsin/MSST/Louisville etc for our DBs.

Some of y’all need to chill the eff out. You can change 3-4 plays and we win that ball game despite all the bad that happened.
As terrible as we played, change one play and we are right there in the 4th quarter. That is what is so sickening about it all.

If I am Florida, I am hiring Golesh tma. Boosters will get over it when he gets to the playoff in year two.

We aren’t the same without him. We don’t go for fourth downs often and our concepts aren’t near as good. I didn’t want to believe he was such a loss, but he really is and he is a damn good coach.
I am still screaming what happened to all the pre-snap motion and wrinkles we installed and showed against Georgia?? Can we not continue to use it for more than one game?

Oklahoma lost last weekend to an unranked Texas team, at a neutral site, by 17. We lost to a Top 10 team tonight, at their place, by 17. Oklahoma dropped 9 spots. Will be interesting to see how far we get dropped. And yes, I know Oklahoma only has 1 loss but it was a lot worse than either of ours.
We definitely will drop outside top 20.

Film dont lie. Thats why bama & arky players said what they said. Guys are soft. Watched the ole miss/uga game, uga gave up a lot of plays, pts, yards. But you can see they “want it”. Our guys dont.
You play like you are coached. IMO, when you call soft conservative games, players follow the lead.

How many coaches are consistently good on the road in big games? We need the list to be able to compare to what’s out there.
Barring catastrophic injury, I am reserving judgement until FL. If we lose in Gainesville to this Lizard team, with either an interim or Sunbelt Billy on his way out, then we have to admit that while he should be loudly lauded for resurrecting our FB program, Heupel may never be an elite coach. Now does that mean he could never win a title? No! Look at Ed O.
