Our defense is a “Field of Dreams” according to Bama WR

First play of the game, take our fall guy from special teams and just punch Germie Bernard in the face. Then play ball.

The funny thing is that WR apparently hasnt been watching tape...because we don't play much Man defense anymore. The overwhelming portion of snaps we play zone in Cover2, Cover3 or Cover4(dime). We played Man way too much vs UGA and got torched. Banks adjusted and now we play to "keep everything in front of us" and take away the deep balls, in order to force teams to have long 10+ play drives to get a TD. This gives our Dline...which is by far the strength of our defense...10 opportunities make a drive killing sack or TFL. 10 tries to force a fumble like the 4 fumbles we forced Saturday. Our DBs are struggling due to missing both starting Corners and issues at Safety. Bend but don't break is the best we can do right now unfortunately. I think we will have to score 40 to beat Bama this week

Since when has time of possession kept us from scoring?? If we dont put up 40 it will be because we shot ourselves in the foot with penalties, or they were able to get us off the field by turnovers and 3rd down stops.
if they have 8 minute drives then we won’t have enough time to score 40. How we going to score 40 when we get 6 attempts at it?

If I played for Bama, I would say the same thing. Hard not to say that.

Need Banks to plant some land mines out in our Field of Dreams
Banks makes a lot of money as a DC. I don't expect miracles defensively in this upcoming game but the pass coverage on third and long this year has been a nightmare. He has to be able to scheme a few stops in passing situations like those this Saturday.

If you look at the FSU game you will see that their #1 strategy was to get after the QB. It work. Ty looked more like Homer. After getting knocked down and chased a few times he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. The game wasn't close. We need to get about 10 sacks in this game. Perhaps our run defense will show up and make them throw more. Pressure on the QB is the key.

Agree with you on he "has" to. We need to roll the dice in a calculated fashion if our D is to withstand a great offense. We cannot play normal pass coverage and or do conventional 3 or 4 man rushes the entire game (yawn) if we have ANY chance of winning in TusksareLoosa.

I'm not going to count on UT getting 10 sacks but bama has allowed pressure this year and one thing this defense does an excellent job of is sacking the QB. I see why bama is favored in this game with most of the prognosticators predicting a tide win. I think bama will run on us some but not like other teams have this year, especially if Jam Miller, there best RB is a no go. Also, bama statistically doesn't stop the run very well either. Pretty sure they surrender around 156 yards rushing per game which gives me some reason for optimism because this offense hums when we gash other teams on the ground.

Maybe trying to sucker us in to playing zone and our zone is far more porous for opponents passing IMO than our man to man.

I am over Boo too.. he will transfer to a lesser conference and excell... he doesnt have the mental fortitude that this team is accustomed to
Not sure I agree. He has an ego so he won't drop down. No idea where he ends up, but I'd bet he shows out and confirms his recruiting hype at his next school. I don't think his heart is in the game here and the relationship sour. He's simply stuck with us for this season due to timing, but in his mind there's nothing to be gained by balling out while at UT and risking injury. Come the next portal I'd be floored if he's not in it. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he doesn't already have his new home lined up.

the major problem is getting the refs to call an even game

We wont if we cant do better on 3rd and 6 or more. We have been absolutely abysmal on 3rd and long this year. We get teams in that position pretty regularly then allow them to convert. Opposing playcallers have no trouble beating our Safeties and Nickels. Thats the problem. UGA converted 13/19 3rd downs against us. MSU was bad too. At least vs Arkansas we held them scoreless on 5 consecutive posessions, but even then 2 of those were turnovers. Hopefully we can do a better job getting off the field on 3rd down vs Bama. Their Oline is good but not great like in past years.

They do have 3 NFL WRs though in Horton, Bernard and Williams. They are gonna throw the ball for 300yds again like their recent games. We are gonna have to get sacks and force a turnover or 2 to win this game IMO. Thats why they beat UGA in athens and are ranked 6th. Thats a damn good team.

The average game has 12.5 possessions. IDC how long the drives are, we will get the ball more than 6 times. If the defense is as bad as you say, then it shouldnt take 9-10 play drives to score. It's highly unlikely that any team can just go 8 min drives all game without making a mistake to kill multiple drives. We could be hypothetical and say 6 possessions. That still gives u the opportunity to score 42. The only way u wont, is for the exact 3 reasons I gave. U either kill drives with penalties, turnovers, or they get off the field on 3rd downs.

Boo has been extremely lazy on the field so far. It was really evident this past week.
I agree, a lot of the busts or missed assignments I saw against Arky when I looked to see who I thought missed it, majority of the time it was 23. He looked out of position a lot.

you can play man without sending the house and leaving easy angle routes for slots lined up on our safeties. Too easy. Seems it’s either all out blitz showing them with 15 seconds on the play clock or keep it in front of you passive and on your heels bs. Like a kid who hasn’t seen a game before is making calls.
