Penn St fires James Franklin

Really sad that his legacy is gonna be “not winning the big game” considering what he’s done throughout his career

He led Vanderbilt to its first real success in over 30 years and then went to Penn State and helped them stay great

I'd be willing to bet today there will be multiple firings, especially in the SEC and ACC. Some program will be coming for Franklin.

And Penn State is positioning themselves in the best spot for the younger names.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Auburn and Florida are the other big name schools to have openings. That’s assuming that Florida doesn’t want to “let’s see next year” with Napier even if he has another late season charge

This seems rash.

Has to be some kind of massive issue between the athletic department and Franklin. Total breakdown in their relationship or something.

Penn State ain't TAMU, they don't just have Scrooge McDuck piles of oil money lying around everywhere.

Not really. I’m surprised it took this long. He’d worn his welcome out with the fanbase years ago. He always lays eggs in the games that matter. For some reason, PSU just always gets the benefit of the doubt in the early season polling.

Like JMS said, BUT Kirby Smart was a damn miracle and completely unproven hire. It would be like if Penn State hired Brian Hartline today

Kirby had 4 rings as a coordinator and coached in the NFL under Saban. Hartline has one as a co coordinator and we all know Kelly was in charge. That’s not the comparison to Kirby.

I get what you and Yankee are saying, but I suspected he would at least make it to the end of the season. They did make the playoffs last year.

I mean I can't stand the dude, he's a total prick. But it still seems odd.

I’ll probably be in the minority but I think this is a bad move for them

6 double digit win seasons in 12 years, 3 straight double digit win seasons and two playoff wins last year.
.
This is why..... James Franklin has a 4-21 record against AP top-10 teams during his time as the head coach at Penn State. This includes a 1-13 record against Ohio State and Michigan combined when both are ranked in the top 10

Noise out of Florida is Norvell and Napier will be done by tomorrow. Things are also happening at Auburn. Can probably throw UNC and USC into the mix of openings. Several others aren't far from making a change.

I am surprised he got axed only because of the large buyout.

You would think 1) they found somebody to step up and fund it and 2) they have a Plan B already in the works.

Really curious to see how this plays out. They may have looked at A&M and think things could only get better for them too.

Then why let him go out and buy the most expensive DC in the game? Or close to it anyway. This seems like a quick hook for 49 million dollars.
