Penn St fires James Franklin

He'll have another job at the end of the year if he wants one. He's won a lot of games. He could do well at Virginia Tech.

But he may want to take his $50M and go home.

It’s going to be interesting to see the reaction if their first target or two say no. I think everyone thinks they’ll go hard after Cignetti but Indiana goes far (think Semi’s), why would he make the jump? Indiana is investing like gangbusters into the program

They should go after Greg Schiano.

Cignetti is a Pennsylvania native who spent many years at Pitt. Would be a great move

I didn’t realize this but he’s 65. He doesn’t look it but seems like he’s been firm in his stance that Indiana was the one that gave him a chance so he has loyalty to them bigly. And given what he’s done there, you only gotta get Mark Cuban to spend to keep him there.
Coach Cig at least talks that he is very loyal to IU. Says that one of his dreams was to always coach in the B1G and that Indiana made that happen.

Point 2 - Cig has ALL of IU believing they can win titles. They have sold out Memorial Stadium for every game this year...that hasn't happened since Lee Corso roamed the sidelines!!! The AD and boosters will do what it takes to keep him in Bloomington.

To me, you don't fire a guy mid-season at this level with that kind of record unless you already have a guy in mind or been talking.
Look for a high profile HC or top tier coordinator to be hired.

So I’m with you there. But just the sound of Franklin yesterday, he seemed done.

It would not shock me one bit if both sides agreed to a split now to get it over with.

And with the money being thrown around, better to have a 2 month head start than waiting another 6 weeks.

Wow,I thought this would happen soon ,but with the buyout, not this soon. They must have someone in mind or plenty of time to find someone they want.

There’s some high profile coaches out of the game right now too. Guys like Urban.

I'd be willing to bet today there will be multiple firings, especially in the SEC and ACC. Some program will be coming for Franklin.

Like JMS said, BUT Kirby Smart was a damn miracle and completely unproven hire. It would be like if Penn State hired Brian Hartline today
Smart has gotten tons of guaranteed support Richt didn't have. Richt got an NCAA violation for paying his coaches out of his own pocket.
