It won't happen with that attitude but yes, it can. You just have to be very dedicated to your diet and exercise regmine. I won a weight loss competition a few years ago by losing 30 lbs of fat and gained 7 lbs of muscle. Cut most carbs, ate a lot of meat and healthy fats and worked out 1 1/2 hours a day 5-6 days a week. Also walked 10000-12000 steps a day. While doing it I increase my bench by 30 lbs, deadlift by 60 lbs, and squat by 70 lbs. It isn't easy eating the same 2 meals every day for breakfast, (5 eggs and 3 chicken sausage) and lunch (1/2 cup of white rice, 1 1/2 cups of 85/15 ground beef cooked with onion, mushrooms and cabbage cooked into it and 1/2 cup of blueberries) but it worked for me.
First and foremost congratulations on the weight loss! I hope you have kept it off and found love for the gym and healthy eating! Trust me bro I have ate the same thing 90% of the year for last 3 years I get it haha!
Did you get a dexa scan done before and after to show where you gained 7 pounds of muscle? Were you a big lifter before this contest?

Unfortunately, I had some work things that got me out of the gym but 12-16 hour days will tend to do that. I now have new stresses with starting a business when I left the rat race with that company.

Yes, got the scan as part of the contest. As well as the caliper measurements. I started doing lighter weights with more reps early in the contest but then had another lifter that needed someone while he was maxing. I went to a 4-8 rep range while lifting with him. He also helped me dial in my diet and helped to keep me accountable. I previously would go to the gym 2-3 days a week but didn't do much cardio except walk on the treadmill or leg work, I naturally have very large muscular legs and worried about them getting too big, which was stupid. Got really into squats and deadlift and everything else just took off. Lifting partner was really good about helping get form right and all my numbers just skyrocketed in 6 weeks. We also have a great gym culture where I go.
