McCoy May Return For Arkansas

PFF's latest mock has him falling to the very end of the first round (pick #32).... would imagine that if he falls much further there will be a push for him to play at least a few games

which is a risk if not 100% healthy and ready to play. He might look worse and fall further.. tough decision sounds to me.

IMO, he is not healthy enough to play at the level he played at last year and he might not reach that level by end of the season..

someone I know lives close to an NFL scout and his (scout's) take is he should not try to play this year.. just one person's opinion.. but someone associated with the league.

I see that point but as a GM there is no way I am handing a guaranteed signing bonus over to any player I haven’t seen acruslly play and take a football hit post injury. I would go 3rd maybe on an elite player but I am not going 1 or 2.

out of 32 of them, there are probably some that have an opposite view of yours. of course it all would depend on how he works out...

I think this is a safe bet. If he's weighing outcomes then it's better to go last in the 1st round than to risk it, get hurt and go much later or not get drafted at all.

Heupel said McCoy wants to play. I believe McCoy wants to play. He will play if/when he’s cleared to do so.
This is why I think he will play. Yes, I know there are handlers/agents telling him to sit. But in the last few weeks, it’s become clear that he’s not listening to them. He’s working to play. AP said as much on a podcast.

Is he first round talent though? Coming off an injury and unproven since. That’s a pretty hard bet for that kind of money. Maybe second or value third round imo.

I used to be in the camp of 'he is pretty much skipping this year and hitting the draft', but now I'm starting to think he does play some this year to show scouts he has fully recovered and can be as productive as pre-injury.

Boost and cement that draft stock.

He’s definitely in the CB1 conversation if healthy. It’s a bit unfortunate because if Jermod could’ve left last season, he’s probably a day 1 or worst case scenario, 2nd round pick. Kinda like James Pearce after his sophomore year.

With the receiver depth in the NFL, secondary players have become even more vital. Just hope he does what’s right and listens to his body.

You bring up an interesting point. If he drops to a second round pick, I can see a path to him playing this year opening up. He might feel the need to prove he's healthy and suffering no lingering effects from the surgery. That would make some sense. IMO, if he remains solidly in the first round, I have a hard time seeing him taking the risk.

He’s already been passed by Colton hood on many projections.

Are any of the Arky injuries significant? Starters? Two of our three are.
No, not really. Maybe J. Brown but mostly lose depth at WR/TE.

Brown started in all of Arkansas' first five games. He logged 12 catches for 167 yards (13.9 avg.) and two touchdowns. In Arkansas' 56-13 loss to No. 16 Notre Dame, Brown suffered a broken tibia and fibula in his left leg while attempting to make a catch with 6:43 left in the third quarter.

"We're going to need other guys to step up," Petrino said on Monday. "[CJ Brown] has played both inside and outside, so if we were going to run out there today and start, he would start at Jalen's position, then [Raylen Sharpe] would go inside. We need [Courtney Crutchfield] to step up."

A couple of tight ends appear on the report for the Razorbacks in senior Andreas Paaske and junior Jeremiah Beck, who will both be out for the Hogs matchup against the Volunteers with undisclosed injuries.

if he is not healthy enough to play though, he won't push it... that is all that is preventing him playing now.. IMO

the most important draft factor for him is to get healthy and prove it by whatever is available at the time. If he passes all tests and can play this season, I believe he will. If he doesn't and can't play, then he is left with the combine and pro days to prove he is healthy, He can only travel the path that is available when he can execute. At the end of the day, I expect him to move on after this season. His health will determine if we see him on the field or not.

I've rarely seen him be wrong. And I've often seen him post things well before AP or other 247/ON3 insiders drop the news (or hints).
Because maybe those guys have a public reputation to uphold so they don’t put out unverified info? Unlike Hyams? Just throwing this out there. Idk.

they will not say something if their sources do not want them to publicly say it. They just don't... and they have a lot of sources.....I've known Brent for 25 years... that is his MO and expectation of those working for him.. I've asked questions that they have not been ready to answer and I understand why. I'm talking offline not online.

I’m so happy Colton has performed well. He’s been such a 🔑 piece to our team. If McCoy sits out the year, but goes to the combine and runs 4.4, I think he’s a first round 🔒 with his sophomore year 🎥

He was one of, if not the highest rated corner in 2024 by PFF.

Also, different position, but Smith-Njigba at Ohio State didn’t play much his junior year because of a hammy, but still ended up going first round and is now a 🔝 5 receiver arguably.

I just hope Jermod makes the best decision for him. If he’s not ready 💯 both physically AND mentally, don’t come back. Corner is the hardest position on the field after QB and with all the change of direction, he needs to trust that knee.
