McCoy May Return For Arkansas

I think we are approaching the point in the season where McCoy could start losing draft value if he doesn't return. The idea that he would purposely sit out doesn't make any sense to me. Teams have to eventually be worried as to why he isn't being cleared anf they will drop him a few rounds if there isn't recent proof after his injury that he can play at a high level. He could easily go from 1stvrd to 3rd/4th.

There is basically zero chance he falls that far. He MIGHT fall out of the first round. Even that seems unlikely.

ACL tears are not the same for everyone. And the timeline to return can be complicated by a lot of factors. Typically it takes 9-12 months to recover. McCoy is currently in his 9th month of recovery, having sustained the injury in January.

No...he has a full season of tape. What matters post injury is how he does at the combine, pro day and NFL team visits. As long as he hasn't lost his agility and speed he will not lose draft value.

Didn’t he tear his ACL in January/February? That’s only 8 months. As much as I want him back, and as much as I think he would add such a big part to our d that’s missing, we can’t rush him back, or at all.

Exactly, he may have two more months of rehab and that wouldn't be out of the ordinary.

Remember 15 years ago when an ACL surgery was at minimum a 18 month recovery and was often career ending. And now people expect someone to be able to return from it 9 months later and are questioning his integrity because he hasn't. Wild times
Or…..maybe the NFL has advised him to lay out. No one knows or should they.
He is the no. 1 projected CB on several sites.
Lots of money at stake here.

he has had some swelling in the knee. if that continues, it will be difficult for him to play.. he continues to try to recover and get out there.. until he puts on pads and practices, he won't play

You are the one guy on here I trust.

Thank you for the info.

Based on what you have said, I doubt we see him this year.

Alot of us care for his well being and taking care of his Family first. This defense is what it is this year and we likely still have 2 more losses even if he plays. It makes more sense for him to sit out and be a high 1st round early 2nd round draft pick.
Well i guess **** the vols then. Hell why do we even have college football? Just get ready for the draft once you graduate high school so you don’t get hurt.

Ps: coming back is in his best interest, dummy.

This is from today

24. Los Angeles Rams (4-2)

Jermod McCoy, CB, Tennessee*

McCoy has yet to play after suffering a torn ACL while training in January. The timeline for his return is still uncertain. But McCoy picked off four passes last season before the injury, and the Rams could use help at cornerback. They've gotten by with retreads at corner such as 2023 first-round pick Emmanuel Forbes Jr., but McCoy is a potential shutdown option on the outside once he returns to full health, something they haven't had since Jalen Ramsey in 2022.

Sadly we won't see McCoy this year IMO. All the VQ guys said that if he isnt back for Bama he likely doesn't make it back. He still hasnt made it to full contact practice this year. By all accounts McCoy himself wants to play but he has to be cleared by doctors and coaches and at this point its probably in his best interest to not play and focus on the combine as soon as he can make cuts and jump etc on the newly repaired knee.

We were picked to finish 9th in the SEC which is too low. Vegas had us at 7.5/12 wins on the year. Most VN posters by a wide margin picked us to finish 9-3 this year including me in the preseason poll. We could drop 2 more games and still finish at 9-3 well above the expectations of anyone outside Tennessee fans which tend to have Orange tinted glasses. We can only drop 1 more game and likely make the playoffs at 10-2 in a season where the ESPN and other prediction algorithms STILL only have us at a ~25 to 30% chance of making it in NOW with a 5-1 record (and being a 42yd FG away from being undefeated and ranked top 3.)

What this team has accomplished so far missing BOTH starting Corners and BOTH starting DTackles for several games is truly remarkable. This staff has done an amazing job again this year. IF we manage to go 10-2 and make the playoffs then Coach Hype should win SEC COY honors when our own SEC media predicted is finishing 9th out of 16 teams.

Who is rooting for him not to return? I must have missed that post
”if he were my son I’d tell him to sit and tank his draft stock”

I have zero inside info, but at this point I think we can assume we aren't going to see McCoy or Gibson this year. McCoy can rest up, get healed, show out at the combine, and still be a 1st rounder. I'm assuming Gibson will be back next year if he misses the entire year.

It would be weird to me if an NFL franchise were willing to spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on a guy that has not played after a catastrophic injury, even after going through workouts. But then again, I do not know how any of this works so maybe it is actually a good idea.

to expect someone to come back 8-9 months removed from ACL surgery and play, let alone be at 100%, is insane. Top it off with what LWS has said about swelling after trying to perform drills and he's just not ready. The only thing this has to do with his draft stock is risking re-injury coming back too early and ending his career.

The issue is there only has to be one team…out of 32.
