Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Yeah, I get the vibe the staff really wants to keep what they have as much as possible. But I think most folks expecting at least 2 OL gone to the draft so there will be some sort of need even if no one else leaves probably.
All depends on Warren/Ginther/J Heard imo. How confident the staff is in that trio will tell with how we approach the portal. Anyone before that class is a wash IMO if they aren’t already playing(Sham is the only one).

They
I remember when a lot of receivers hit the portal in the offseason. Was easy to look for problems with Pope. But maybe the answer is a simple as they knew what was behind them and they would be backups to Matthews and Stayley. I mean, none of them would get playing time beyond those two needing rest. Brazzell was already a starter.

Also, besides Ohio State and Alabama, can any team claim to have a better starting WR room than us? These guys are all twitched out and with top end speed to boot

Don’t see us taking a RB(part of that is me hoping we throw a big bag at DDG). Roll with the trio of Bishop/Lewis/Morris with Baker waiting and progressing.
I’m not sure Lewis is here next year. If they start going with mostly a two headed running game after the bye week, he may see that he is moving down the depth chart. Morris is definitely going to overtake him and depending on how Baker progresses, he may too. I hope they do take one either via the portal or a freshmen.

I'm not saying you're wrong but I could see Lewis seeing a thinned out backfield ahead of him due to Star's eligibility expiring as an opportunity. If we want to keep him, I suspect we will do what it takes to keep him. If we don't, then we'll be portal shopping for sure. I think we would take a guy anyway if we can't find a recruit we like enough. You always want to be recruiting running backs. You want healthy depth and pretty much every year you will lose guys to the portal. For us that's usually been depth-pieces, but it's something you have to prepare for.

Junkyard Dog. Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka. Sting. Those guys were pretty popular.

I saw Sting without his make-up and didnt recognize him at all.
I saw Ten woods, ole Anderson, Gene Anderson, flair, dusty rodes, flair, Harley race, Sperstar, Blanchard, Tony atlas, big show, Andre giant, etc back n the day. Most didn’t get paid much in the 7Os early 80s.

As a young kid, I was terrified when my dad would get into arguments w the wrestlers. 🤼‍♀️ lol 🤦

I keep visiting these sites of teams that are in the head coach market now after early-season decisions to axe coaches and it's remarkable to me how many of these coaching hot boards include coaches that wouldn't leave where they are for any of those jobs, and even if they would, they couldn't afford to buyout their current contract.

Remarkably, the most realistic is Lane Kiffin because he has a 4 million dollar buyout I think? It's way lower than anyone else being mentioned, but Kiffin wouldn't take any of those open jobs over where he is.

Fill in the blank: Chris Brazzell II is the best WR to play for the Vols since _____.

I have been asking around and the answers really depend on age. Some people say Hyatt, Robert Meachem, some say Cordarrelle Patterson or Jennings.

My answer is Justin Hunter (Similar size, speed, agility).

For perspective:
  • Brazzell already has 7 TDs in 5 games.
  • On his current pace, he would finish with 17 TDs in a 12 game season.
  • That would break Jalin Hyatt’s single season record of 15 (set in 2022) and would be good enough to tie for 10th all time in program history for receiving TDs in a season.

Only reason I can see Lewis transferring is he’s currently overpaid. His running back instincts are lacking drastically. We thought he would be one of those “just add water” recruits, kid need reps and developing. Should’ve given him one of those Dodge Chargers instead of the 100k Benz. He’s riding better than Joey Dimes, just to hold his hands sideways on all kick returns as the ball sail over his head.
