Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Max kicked a longer field goal in OT.

He just s*** himself under the pressure the first kick.
This is what happened and it’s hardly noticeable but think as a golfer as well. Max picked his head up as he rotated just a split too quickly on the kick and he pushed it. I think he was wanting to make sure it was good and wanted to watch it. That slight imperfection was what knocked it off not nerves. Mechanically lifted his head up too soon just slightly to watch.

Apparently Syracuse has an 8th year senior on their roster: https://cuse.com/sports/football/roster/david-reese/24657

If you look at his 247 page, he was first offered by Miss State... in January 2016. Dan Mullen still had two seasons left in Starkville at that point.

This guy's recruiting cycle and collegiate career has spanned a full decade.

They also have a 17 year old starting in the secondary.

Several of the Waltons graduated from Missouri and they are originally from there
100%. It is interesting how that family has ties to both schools. Bud's name is on the arena and Sam's name is on the school of business in Fayetteville. I believe Sam's boy, Jim, lives in the area and gives to Arkansas.

Which would be nerves because he was rushing or wanting to see it go through my friend. It caused him to make a mistake mechanically. I could tell from the tv before he took the field that he was going to miss. He looked scared as hell. I even said to my wife that I wish someone would look at Max and go talk to him because he looks shook.

Since I played soccer I’ll give you a soccer reference. A penalty kick is essentially a gimme goal. The only reason anyone ever misses is because they are nervous or over thinking the shot. It causes you to doubt yourself and make a mistake. If every player just walked up and drilled the ball into either corner, it is unstoppable.

Well, just another feather in Barnes' cap...now has the highest rated recruit in TN history.

He gets a Final Four and ya'll will NEVER have an argument against him not being the best HC in Vol history....by ya'll I mean @mr.checkerboards
There's no argument now...as soon as he got that 2nd elite 8....it was over.

Yep, but they might have the dudes on roster to start next year and it's harder to attract OL portal targets without starting spots.

Potentially next year you could have these guys starting (all 5 on roster currently)

LT - Sanders
LG - Sham
C - Sam
RG - Satterwhite
RT - Perry

We also have a 5 star OT coming in, but I think if they feel like they need to add a starter to the OL next year for whatever reason they'll 100% go to the portal. If they're adding anymore HS guys it's for development, imo
You think Moe is going pro?

Believe it’s a fairly common thing to happen when the state you live in introduces a new professional sports team
Yep I was a 49er(Jerry Rice) until the Oilers moved to Memphis. I remember seeing Eddie George after the game in a limo outside the Liberty Bowl. I was a kid then, but knowing what I know now that had to be a terrible year for the players lol. Although Memphis was much better in the late 90’s than it is today.

Fun fact: Raiford’s(the club owner) daughter is my God Mom. The man absolutely terrified me in my pre teen years the way he looked and dressed lol. I’ll know who the real partiers are on here if they are familiar with Raiford’s.

And we are all worried they may NOT keep him.
It doesn't matter to me for a couple of reasons: one they are off the schedule at least on an annual basis next year. two I have zero confidence they could actually attract a better coach than Billy. And even if they do, the NIL is what it is. Nike and all those other brands are paying DJ Lagway but they didn't buy him a badly-needed RT in the portal this off-season.

I know for sure DL, specifically interior guys. Also they'll take the right OL, but not a "have to take" I think TE/RB also would be areas they'd take guys if the right guy is there.

Seems like a "playmaker" is desirable...that could be TE/WR/RB or ATH though so pretty wide open...

This was from Hubbs on 99.1 a day or two ago. Overall they just want quality pieces at this point.

I think we should throw a lot of money at a d tackle and sign two priority ones in the portal. Only reason I’m not including safety is because I hope Wyatt sticks there, and I think Combay is better than the safeties from the prior class that we signed. Must bring a transfer or two there as well though, I don’t want to depend on Beasley to start.

I'd be more worried about the Arkansas game if they hadn't beaten UT last year. I believe the older players will be dialed in for the game and a measure of revenge.
I’d be more worried if I didn’t watch them lose to Memphis. They lost to our Juco program in the state of Tennessee. Imagine your first game as a DC, under unheard of conditions, and it’s against Coach Heup. Vols by fiddy

Not sure I'd say "upgraded" at least from a production standpoint...I will say we've got as talented as a PG with a bit better scoring skillset and size.

Ja'Kobi shouldn't be a fall off at PG...and he really should be an upgrade as a scorer from that spot.
hard to replicate the heart of ZZ and his defensive in your face, pest-like on ball guarding.
